OPPO F31 Pro+ is the third sub-Rs 40,000 smartphone from the brand in as many months. This one sits below the camera-oriented OPPO Reno14 (review) and the gaming-focused OPPO K13 Turbo Pro (review). The OPPO F31 Pro+ is priced in India at Rs 32,999, with a focus on design and durability. The handset also features a robust battery pack that promises long endurance and advanced network connectivity. However, the chipset seems slightly underwhelming for the price, and the cameras lack versatility.

So, who should buy the OPPO F31 Pro+? We tell you as we take this device through its paces in this review. Read on.

Striking & durable design

The OPPO F31 Pro+ is a striking device to look at, particularly in the Gemstone Blue colour variant we received for review. Its dual-tone finish stands out, with the lower portion reflecting a subtle bluish-purple hue when light hits it at an angle. This shimmering effect also extends to the circular camera module, creating a glowing ring around its edges. I also appreciate that the module sits almost flush with the back panel and features a gentle ramp, ensuring it doesn’t feel intrusive or awkward against the finger.

However, that visual charm doesn’t fully translate to the in-hand experience. For some reason, the phone doesn’t feel particularly premium, despite the aerospace-grade aluminium frame found on some of the expensive smartphones. This is likely due to its glossy flat edges and fibre-glass build. The latter is especially prone to fingerprints and smudges, meaning you’ll find yourself wiping it down often if you prefer going caseless. OPPO does include a bundled case, though it comes in black and inevitably conceals the phone’s design. On the flip side, the case is well-built and offers a secure, comfortable grip, something the glossy edges alone don’t quite manage to provide.

The OPPO F31 Pro+ feels slightly broader, making it less comfortable for one-handed use. This could likely be due to its boxy design and less curved corners.

Be that as it may, the F31 Pro+ is as durable a smartphone as you can get for its price. The handset features a Multi-Layer Airbag Cushioning system, which safeguards key components such as the camera, speakers, battery, and vibration motors using foam and silicone pads to absorb minor shocks from accidental drops. It is further tested to withstand extreme temperatures, humidity, rainfall, dust, sustained vibration, and even salt mist, backed by the MIL-STD-810H-2022 certification. On top of that, the F31 Pro+ carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings, making it resistant not only to dust but also to high-temperature sprays and powerful water jets.

OPPO claims that the smartphone can survive 18 different types of liquids, including beverages such as coffee and milk. While I couldn’t verify the claim, the F31 Pro+ does feel solid. The fascia of the smartphone features an AGC DT-Star D+ protection, which is known for its stronger scratch-resistance.

The OPPO F31 Pro+ is also relatively thin, measuring just 7.7mm in thickness, and lightweight at 195 grams. But the weight can vary depending on the colour variants, with the Himalyan White and Festival Pink tipping the scales at 204 grams. This is still impressive for a phone that packs a massive 7,000mAh battery. However, the weight distribution isn’t perfectly balanced; the bottom feels noticeably heavier than the top, which can make the phone a touch less ergonomic during extended use, especially during vertical orientation.

Impressive battery life

Talking about the endurance, the OPPO F31 Pro+ provides an impressive backup for regular usage. It is one of the beefiest batteries you can find within the segment, ranking just behind the POCO F7, which boasts the segment’s largest 7,550mAh battery. The handset scores 13 hours and 29 minutes in our PCMark battery test, which is modest for a 7,000mAh battery. There are Realme smartphones with the same battery that have scored over 15 hours consistently during the test.

Be that as it may, the F31 Pro+’s video streaming test results remain on par with the competition, consuming 2 percent of battery after 30 minutes. This makes the smartphone ideal for multimedia consumption; however, its battery consumption during heavy usage remained pretty standard. During our gaming test, the handset’s battery depleted by 16 percent after 30 minutes of BGMI, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Real Racing 3 each. The Realme GT7, which also packs a 7,000mAh battery, remains better optimised to handle demanding use, dropping only 10 percent cumulatively in the same test.

However, unlike the Realme smartphone, the OPPO F31 Pro+ targets casual usage. In that regard, the handset is well optimised to last a day and then some between charges. When it comes to charging, you won’t have to spend hours. The handset comes with 80W fast charging support, with a compatible charger shipped in the box, which can juice it up from 20 to 80 percent in just 56 minutes. This is impressive for a smartphone with a 7,000mAh battery, which, per the company, has over five years of lifespan.

To further extend battery longevity, the OPPO F31 Pro+ comes with Bypass Charging support. This feature lets the phone draw power directly from the charger instead of routing it through the battery, effectively preventing unnecessary charge–discharge cycles. As a result, it helps reduce heat build-up and minimise long-term battery wear.

Lovely display, limited brightness

The OPPO F31 Pro+ sports a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a centred punch-hole, FHD+ resolution, adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10 support, and up to 1,600 nits peak brightness. This is a pretty standard display for the price, with razor-thin bezels on all four sides. However, the brightness feels slightly underwhelming, impacting the display’s legibility outside under direct sunlight. The Realme 15 Pro, which boasts a 6,500 nits peak brightness, was relatively brighter when compared side by side.

Except for that, the OPPO F31 Pro+’s display looks terrific. The default Vivid mode delivers boosted colours, which look quite eye-catching. If you prefer slightly softer colours, there is an option to choose Natural screen colour mode within the phone’s settings. Users further have the option to customise the screen colours with warm and cold tones. The colours look consistent even when looked at from an angle.

Moving on, the smartphone supports HDR playback from Netflix and other streaming platforms out of the box. This makes it a capable device for watching movies and TV shows. While streaming The Bear on the F31 Pro+, the display handled the bright, reflective kitchen scenes with finesse, preserving fine details without washing out the highlights. At the same time, it maintained lifelike skin tones and rendered the darker, shadowy moments with convincing depth, creating a more immersive viewing experience overall.

The handset boasts stereo speakers, which ensure crisp audio even at maximum volume. The bottom speaker is louder and fuller, offering bass, while the top-mounted speaker (behind the earpiece) adds treble, making the sound feel more immersive.

Capable, but ageing chipset

At the core of the OPPO F31 Pro+ is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. While this setup is capable of handling everyday tasks and moderate gaming, it’s a bit surprising to see OPPO opt for a slightly older chipset when newer and more powerful options are already available. Its direct successor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, has even made its way into similarly priced rivals such as the Realme 15 Pro earlier this year.

The OPPO F31 Pro+ AnTuTu score may appear on par with the Realme 15 Pro, but it can be seen lagging behind in Geekbench by a margin. This suggests the handset’s inferior processing capabilities for both light and heavy usage. What’s impressive, though, is its throttling performance in our Burnout CPU Throttle test, which scored a respectable 61.8 percent. This could be attributed to its large 5,219mm square SuperCool VC system, which seems to be quite thermally efficient, allowing the phone to run smoothly even during extensive usage. This was evident in our gaming tests, too.

The OPPO F31 Pro+ showed commendable thermal control, heating up by only 11.4 degrees Celsius after 90 minutes of continuous gaming, a result comparable to dedicated gaming smartphones. While it doesn’t support the highest frame rate options that enhance fluidity, the device still manages stable gameplay at moderate settings with minimal frame drops. For context, we tested BGMI on HDR graphics with Ultra frame rate enabled, and the phone delivered an average of 36.3 FPS after 30 minutes. That figure is on par with what we observed on the Realme 15 Pro and POCO F7.

So, if you are a moderate to heavy user, the OPPO F31 Pro+ should justify your needs. The handset will not get uncomfortably warm, stutter, or show any noticeable lag while browsing, streaming, social media scrolling, and other casual usage.

Staying connected

OPPO F31 Pro+ speed test (L) iPhone 16e speed test (R)

The OPPO F31 Pro+ is touted as the segment’s first smartphone to support 5G++ connectivity, promising enhanced network capabilities with ultra-fast speeds and access to more signal frequency bands. The 5G++ icon is designed to appear automatically when paired with a compatible operator, in this case Jio. However, in my testing, the device only latched onto 5G+ networks, and the speeds were unexpectedly lower than what I achieved on the iPhone 16e using the same SIM, in the same location, and on the same plan.

The smartphone also boasts NetworkBoost Chip S1, along with low-frequency antennas, to improve signal strengths and uninterrupted connectivity even in cramped spaces such as crowded metros.

Functional software, but far from clean

Software-wise, the F31 Pro+ runs ColorOS 15 on top of Android 15 out of the box. OPPO has committed to providing two years of major OS upgrades and three years of security updates for the device. As is typical with OPPO smartphones, a wide range of apps comes pre-installed. In fact, the F31 Pro+ ships with as many as 76 pre-loaded apps, the highest I’ve encountered on a handset recently. Of these, 23 are third-party apps, which can be uninstalled after setup, though doing so adds an extra step for the user.

Moreover, the handset includes a proprietary App Market app, along with Hot Apps and Hot Games, which recommend and notify you about trending apps and games. All of this makes the overall UI feel somewhat cluttered and less user-friendly. It would be great if OPPO could streamline the software experience in future updates by cutting down on bloatware and reducing intrusive ads.

To enhance productivity, the OPPO F31 Pro+ features several AI tools that offer real-time translation and summaries of calls, add subtitles to videos in the local language, circle to search for what’s on your screen, recompose images, remove unwanted objects from photos, and enhance images, among other things. These work as advertised and require an active internet connection.

Decent cameras

The OPPO F31 Pro+ sports a dual camera setup, with a 50MP OIS sensor and a 2MP monochrome lens. The front camera is a 32MP lens, mounted in the punch-hole setup, for selfies and video calling. The cameras support a variety of modes, including underwater photography, Time-Lapse, Slow-mo video recording, and more. Moreover, the device is capable of shooting 4K video recording at 30 fps.

When it comes to image quality, the OPPO F31 Pro+ colours appear slightly subdued, and the details appear underwhelming for the price. The handset only excels at producing images with near-accurate skin tones and colours in selfies and low-light, respectively. The handset is also quite consistent with bokeh when capturing portraits. However, its edge detection is not consistent in separating the subject in the foreground from the background. There is noticeable warping around the edges of the subject.

This is how the OPPO F31 Pro+ cameras compare against the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, which is one of the best camera smartphones you can buy for around Rs 30,000.

Daylight

After image
Motorola Edge 60 Pro

In daylight shots from the primary cameras, the OPPO F31 Pro+ avoids the heavy oversaturation seen on the Motorola, but it swings the other way by toning down colours to the point of looking muted. This results in images that appear flatter than they should. Despite having a narrower field of view, the OPPO also falls short in fine detail reproduction. Exposure is handled fairly well, showcasing different colour palettes across the frame, but shadow areas are often crushed, limiting the overall dynamic range.

Portrait

Before image
OPPO F31 Pro+
After image
Motorola Edge 60 Pro

In portraits, the OPPO F31 Pro+ makes skin tones overtly white, but it still keeps the tones closer to reality. The T-shirt colour is more accurate on the OPPO smartphone than the Edge 60 Pro, which has a yellowish effect on the image. While the F31 Pro+ may not excel with edge detection, its bokeh effect is more consistent than the Motorola smartphone.

Selfie

Before image
OPPO F31 Pro+
After image
Motorola Edge 60 Pro

The OPPO F31 Pro+’s front camera can be seen smoothing the selfies, affecting the facial details and exposure to background details. However, the skin tones and colours appear more accurate on the smartphone than on its counterpart, which makes the images overtly contrasty. The Motorola Edge 60 Pro not only outshines the OPPO offering by capturing finer details but also preserves those shadows.

Low-light (night mode)

Before image
OPPO F31 Pro+
After image
Motorola Edge 60 Pro

In low light, the OPPO F31 Pro+ maintains that realism, but it struggles to keep the noise level down and control the light flare as effectively as the Edge 60 Pro. The latter also excels at capturing more details than the OPPO offering.

Overall, the OPPO F31 Pro+ feels more suited to users who prefer toned-down, natural-looking colours over punchy, hyper-detailed images. However, those looking for consistently sharp results with better shadow detail and low-light performance may find the Motorola to be the stronger option.

Final verdict

The OPPO F31 Pro+ is not for its raw performance and camera versatility. Instead, the handset comes across as one of the most resilient smartphones in its price bracket, backed by MIL-STD-810H testing and triple IP ratings, which makes it an appealing option for users who want a stylish yet rugged daily driver. Its massive 7,000mAh battery, efficient thermals, and 80W fast charging further add to its appeal for those who value longevity and reliability.

That said, the choice of Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 feels dated in late 2025, especially when rivals are already shipping newer chipsets with better efficiency and performance. The camera setup, too, is limited and inconsistent, fine for casual shots but underwhelming if photography is your priority. Add in the bloatware-heavy software, and the F31 Pro+ feels less polished compared to some competitors.

If these factors don’t bother you and you are in the offline market looking for a mid-range smartphone, the OPPO F31 Pro+ will fit the bill.
