Pros

  • Sharp, vibrant display
  • Strong all-around camera system
  • Powerful performance & stable thermals
  • Outstanding battery life

Cons

  • Quick button is underutilised
  • Cameras have occasional focus issues

OPPO’s journey with the Find X series has been quite an evolution. What began as a bold design experiment, featuring an all-screen front and pop-up cameras, has gradually transformed into a showcase of all-around excellence. Over the years, the brand shifted its focus from pure aesthetics to delivering flagship-level performance, particularly in the camera department. The Find X8 series was considered OPPO’s most polished effort yet, at least until the arrival of the Find X9 series, which takes refinement a step further.

I have been using the Pro smartphone in the lineup for over two weeks now, and it seems to have taken generational leaps – in terms of hardware, at least, and there are several factors contributing to it. Read on to learn what these factors are in this OPPO Find X9 Pro review.

Verdict

The OPPO Find X9 Pro nails the essentials, with excellent performance, class-leading battery life, a superb display, and a camera system that’s reliably strong across most scenarios. A few quirks remain, such as slight focus issues with cameras, limited AI features, and a few unnecessary pre-installed apps, but none of these overshadow the phone’s overall refinement.

Camera system that shines in more ways than one

The OPPO Find X9 Pro’s cameras are its biggest draw, and there’s plenty to unpack. I’ve put together a dedicated deep-dive that explores every facet of the system – how it performs in day-to-day use, where it shines, and where it falls short. Click on the link if you want to check it out. If not, here’s a summary:

  • The OPPO Find X9 Pro comprises a triple rear camera system, a 50MP Sony LYT-828 OIS primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide sensor, and the industry’s first 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP5 periscope telephoto.
  • These sensors have been fine-tuned by popular camera manufacturer Hasselblad. Furthermore, there is a new 21mm “True Colour Camera” and the Lumo Image Engine that improve dynamic range, clarity, colour accuracy, and noise handling across conditions.

  • Overall, the results look impressive, with strong details, balanced dynamic range, and reliable focus. The shadows might look slightly crushed, but the colours look punchy and vibrant in a pleasing way. Moreover, there are several modes, like the XPan for panoramic shots, which really enhance the photography experience.
  • The front camera is a 50MP sensor, which is reliable but leans towards softer, less detailed selfies, especially in low light.
  • I’ve also noticed relatively slow processing and occasional focus hiccups. While OPPO hasn’t confirmed anything yet, these are the sort of quirks a software update could easily iron out. Until then, it can be a bit trying, especially when you realise after the fact that the subject isn’t quite in focus, forcing you to reframe and take another shot.

To understand how much the Find X9 Pro photography has advanced over its predecessor, and whether it can claim the title of best camera phone, we ran head-to-head comparisons against the OPPO Find X8 Pro and the Google Pixel 10 Pro (review).

Daylight

Pixel 10 Pro

The OPPO Find X9 Pro excels over both the Google Pixel 10 Pro and Find X8 Pro in images with better details in daylight. This could be attributed to the X9 Pro’s ability to save images with a high 50MP resolution. As a result, the building texture, signboards, and trees on the smartphone appear sharper than those of its competitors.

The handset also delivers commendable colour accuracy and contrast; however, in terms of dynamic range and exposure, the Find X8 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro pull ahead. Last year’s Find X8 Pro, in particular, brings out shadow detail more naturally and with greater precision than its rivals.

Ultrawide

After image
Pixel 10 Pro

When it comes to colour accuracy in ultrawide shots, the OPPO Find X9 Pro lacks the colour accuracy that the Find X8 and Pixel 10 Pro bring to the table. The latest Find-series smartphone can be seen saturating the scene, making the images more contrasty than they should have been.

Moreover, the Pixel smartphone edges ahead of both Find series models with finer detail rendition and noticeably lower distortion. Its wider field of view also gives it an advantage, enabling you to capture broader landscapes while still maintaining clean, well-balanced results.

Portrait

Pixel 10 Pro

When it comes to portraits, the OPPO Find X9 Pro offers noticeably sharper edge detection than both the Find X8 Pro and the Google Pixel 10 Pro. Subject separation is outstanding, the best I’ve seen on a smartphone, whether you’re shooting with the 23mm primary lens or the 70mm telephoto.

Detail and clarity remain impressive on the device. However, its colour handling isn’t the most reliable when it comes to skin tones. There’s often a slight reddish cast applied to faces, which, while flattering, does shift the overall look away from true-to-life rendering. Last year’s Find X8 Pro, on the other hand, manages to offer the actual representation of the scene.

Selfie

Pixel 10 Pro

Selfies may not be the OPPO Find X9 Pro’s strongest sensor, but it still manages to do well compared to the Pixel 10 Pro and Find X8 Pro. The details remain ample, skin tones look close to reality, exposure is good, and the shadow retention is on point.

Low light (night mode)

Before image

In low light, especially with night mode enabled, the OPPO Find X9 Pro does better than both the Pixel 10 Pro and the Find X8 Pro. The handset offers good exposure while controlling the light flare and preserving the details.

The Find X8 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro still pull ahead in certain areas, particularly when it comes to preserving those finer nuances the latest Find series occasionally misses. Even so, the X9 Pro stands out by delivering a scene that stays truer to what you actually see.

The OPPO Find X9 Pro is powered by the all-new MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. This combination ensures the phone never plays second fiddle to any flagship. In our tests, spanning synthetic benchmarks, gaming, and everyday use, the Find X9 Pro delivered exceptional performance across the board.

Its AnTuTu and Geekbench scores even surpassed Apple’s A19 Pro chipset, and when switched to Performance Mode (which increases power draw for higher output), the results were on par with the OnePlus 15’s Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC.

The phone features an expansive 36,344.4mm square advanced vapour chamber cooling system that effectively dissipates heat, ensuring consistent performance even under heavy workloads. Our Burnout and 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress tests back this up. The Find X9 Pro throttled to 45 percent of its peak performance in Burnout and scored 7,466 in Wild Life Extreme, outperforming the OnePlus 15 (review) in sustained performance. That said, the phone’s AI performance is slightly underwhelming, especially considering that even last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered devices achieved higher scores in our AI Benchmark test.

When it comes to gaming and overall performance, the Find X9 Pro doesn’t miss a beat. The handset handled everything thrown at it, from everyday multitasking and 4K video recording to intensive gaming sessions, with effortless ease. Despite not being a gaming-focused smartphone, the Find X9 Pro managed high-end games, such as Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, BGMI, and Honkai: Star Rail, with just as finesse as the OnePlus 15, which uses a custom triple chip architecture, to enhance gaming.

The handset delivered a consistent frame rate, with average remaining in and around 60 (even touching 120 in BGMI), ensuring smooth and consistent gameplay. The phone did all that without getting uncomfortably warm. During our in-house testing, where we played BGMI, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Real Racing 3 for 30 minutes each, the Find X9 Pro registered just 4 percent increase in thermals on average.

Largest battery ever on a flagship, and it truly delivers

The OPPO Find X9 Pro packs a massive 7,500mAh battery – the largest ever seen on a flagship smartphone so far. OPPO has managed to house this powerhouse inside a body that’s just 8.25mm thick, making it even slimmer than the iPhone 17 Pro models, which feature comparatively smaller batteries ranging from 4,252mAh to 5,088mAh. This feat is made possible by OPPO’s third-generation Silicon-Carbon battery technology, which delivers higher energy density without adding bulk and is designed to retain up to 80 percent of its original capacity even after five years of typical use. While it’ll take another 4 years, 11 months, and 2 weeks of testing to fully validate that claim, our testing already shows the Find X9 Pro offers truly impressive battery endurance.

PCMark battery test measures phone battery life from 100% to 20% (higher is better)

A normal usage would typically ensure up to two days of usage between charges, per the company. For heavy users, it comfortably powers through an entire day without issue. I was getting roughly six and a half hours of screen time during my exploration of Barcelona, Spain, while navigating maps, snapping countless photos, checking social media accounts, browsing information, and chatting on WhatsApp with my spouse back home in India. Even during our gaming tests, the handset saw a marginal 4 percent average drop in battery while playing graphically demanding titles such as BGMI, Real Racing 3, and Call of Duty: Mobile for 30 minutes each. This level of endurance is nothing short of outstanding.

When it comes to charging, the OPPO Find X9 Pro doesn’t disappoint. Retaining the same 80W SuperVOOC wired charging system as last year’s Find X8 Pro (review), it can go from 20 to 100 percent in just 73 minutes, which is decent. The device also supports 50W AirVOOC wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging for added convenience.

Crisp, vibrant display – the best I have seen to date

The OPPO Find X9 Pro features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 10-bit colour panel covering 100 percent of the DCI-P3 gamut. It delivers a crisp 2,772 × 1,272 pixel resolution, supports an adaptive 1Hz – 120Hz refresh rate, and reaches an impressive 3,600 nits of peak brightness. You also get 2,160Hz PWM dimming for reduced eye strain, a minimum brightness of just 1 nit for comfortable night-time use, and full support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+ content.

The bezels have been trimmed down even further, now measuring just 1.15mm on all four sides for an impressively sleek edge-to-edge look. The punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera is also noticeably compact, ensuring an uninterrupted and immersive viewing experience. Whether reading text or even watching a movie, the visuals remained sharp and vibrant both indoors and outdoors. The HDR content also looked quite appealing on the display, with excellent contrast ratio, deep blacks, and preservation of details even around shadowy areas.

I streamed an entire season of Wednesday on the device, a show filled with moody, shadowy scenes, and not once did I struggle to make out the finer details. While the display looked stunning in its default profile – the best I’ve seen on an Android phone, there is an option to customise the colour palette in the settings app.

The display also comes with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, which is similar to the one we have seen on Samsung Galaxy S-series, Pixel, and other smartphones. The scanner lies where the thumb would generally rest while holding the smartphone, and it is quick and accurate to unlock the device.

Refined design that feels more practical now

OPPO has also refined the design of the Find X9 Pro. While it may not be radically new or unique, I’ve grown to appreciate it more than the previous-generation Find X8 Pro. The new flat-edged frame, combined with a velvet-finish back, offers a noticeably better grip, making the phone feel more secure and comfortable in the hand compared to the earlier curved edges and marble-like finish. The phone is available in two colour variants: Silk White and Titanium Charcoal.

The white variant certainly exudes a premium look, but its bundled case is so starkly white that you’ll constantly worry about it picking up stains. Moreover, my Silk White review unit developed a faint, permanent stain, something that appears to be an isolated issue, as the other unit I inspected showed no such flaw.

While the 224-gram weight may sound hefty on paper, the X9 Pro’s well-balanced design ensures it feels comfortable even during extended use. The edges are also nice and flat, with a matte finish for better grip and curved corners that keep the phone from digging into your palm. Around the back, the phone is covered with glass, which does well to prevent fingerprints and smudges, and nicely blends with the redesigned camera module.

OPPO has opted for a squarish camera module this time, reminiscent of the recent OnePlus 15, replacing the earlier circular setup. The circular module previously offered good stability when the phone was placed face up on a flat surface, but it occupied considerable space and was prone to smudges during use. The new squarish design avoids those issues; however, it does make the phone wobble on a flat surface, making it less ideal for typing when the phone is laid flat.

OPPO Find X8 Pro
OPPO Find X8 Pro

One aspect that truly stands out about the Find X9 Pro is its durability. OPPO has gone a step further by equipping the phone with an IP69 rating, in addition to the standard IP68 and IP66 certifications for water and dust resistance. This makes the smartphone capable of withstanding high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. Moreover, the combination of an aluminium frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection enables it to earn a 5-star SGS drop-resistance rating.

Useful Snap Key; Quick Button not so much

Besides the power and volume buttons, the OPPO Find X9 Pro can be found with two additional keys: Snap Key and Quick Button. The latter is positioned on the right spine, towards the bottom half of the phone, and functions similarly to the iPhone’s Camera Button. Truth be told, I was not a fan of the button on iPhones, which can now be customised to any other action than just limited to camera controls, and I’m not a fan of it on the OPPO smartphone either.

Quick Button

Unfortunately, the Quick Button on the Find X9 Pro can’t be customised for any other actions, such as opening the QR code scanner, launching Instagram, or activating the Magnifier. It’s tied exclusively to the camera app for snapping photos and adjusting the zoom level, which only proves useful when shooting in landscape mode. In portrait orientation, the placement feels awkward and largely impractical, rendering the button rather pointless. While OPPO does let you disable it entirely, if the company intends to keep this feature, it should really consider expanding its functionality to support a wider range of tasks, as has been done on the Snap Key.

Snap Key

The Snap Key is a feature lifted straight from OnePlus’ playbook. Positioned near the top of the left frame, it serves as a more versatile evolution of the classic Alert Slider, which was limited to switching between ring profiles. In contrast, the Snap Key can be customised for a range of actions, from launching the AI Mind Space or Camera to enabling Do Not Disturb mode or activating real-time translation. I set it up to toggle between silent, ring, and vibrate modes, and found this far more convenient and intuitive than navigating through on-screen options.

Refined software experience

The OPPO Find X9 Pro ships with the latest ColorOS 16, which is pre-installed on top of Android 16. The new software isn’t significantly different from the previous iteration, but there are changes that are instantly noticeable, such as the AI-suggested widgets on the home screen, which display the most frequently used apps, battery health, steps walked, and more. The widget support is also expanding to more apps, such as music players, food delivery, and commute trackers, to provide a glanceable view of the information without launching the app. These widgets will further offer fluid animation when you interact with them, thanks to the more advanced Luminous Rendering Engine.

ColorOS16 Flux Home screen in action (L) Software version running (C) App drawer (R)

The new software brings the Flux Home Screen, which allows users to reshape the app icons for more personalised control. The personalisation aspect also expands to the lock screen, which allows users to add Motion Photos, also known as short videos with a depth effect, widgets for information at a glance, AI-powered text recommendations, and a clock style similar to iPhones. You can read more about the ColorOS 16 features in the linked article.

However, I wish OPPO had made an effort to reduce the number of pre-installed apps. There are 59 in total, including seven third-party ones. The in-house App Market, for instance, feels redundant in comparison to the Google Play Store. Similarly, the Game Centre and Videos app don’t add much value – a complaint we also raised during our OPPO Find X8 Pro review. Hopefully, OPPO will listen to us this time and fix them in future updates.

The OPPO Find X9 Pro is promised five years of major OS updates and six years of security patches, which is a respectable commitment, though it still trails behind Google and Samsung flagships, both of which offer seven years of updates.

AI additions are useful, not unique

The OPPO Find X9 Pro AI features aren’t as rich as the Galaxy AI and Pixel AI, but it still has some tricks up its sleeves to enhance productivity. The AI Mind Space is something OPPO is boasting about. The feature acts as your personalised space to store all your screenshots, notes, voice memos, and more. The AI in this space analyses all these elements to present you with relevant information up front, negating the need to go through them individually.

Moreover, if the information you provide includes details about an event with a specific date and time, AI Mind Space can suggest adding it directly to your Calendar app as a reminder. OPPO has also integrated Google Gemini support, allowing the AI assistant to access relevant personal information and handle tasks on your behalf, such as using event details to suggest commuting options or even planning an itinerary around your schedule. OPPO says all the information remains private to you and your device. It can be a super useful feature for someone who relies on their smartphone a lot for planning and more.

I wish the AI Mind Space had cross-platform support to access the information stored on other devices when your smartphone is not around. Hopefully, OPPO may listen to us and add the support in the future update.

Additionally, the Find X9 Pro has the usual AI Writer, AI Recorder, and a handful of AI photo editing tools such as AI Eraser, AI Unblur, and AI Reflection Remover. The features are not flawless, but they are super convenient for making your images even better. OPPO has also added AI Portrait Glow with its new ColorOS 16, but it didn’t show on our Find X9 Pro at the time of writing this article.

Final verdict

The OPPO Find X9 Pro feels like a confident leap forward for the Find X series, not just an iterative update. Its camera system shows meaningful progress, especially in consistency and everyday reliability, even if rivals still edge it out in a few isolated areas. The new Dimensity 9500 chipset delivers top-tier performance, the enormous 7,500mAh battery sets a new benchmark for flagship endurance, and the display is easily one of the finest you’ll find on any smartphone today.

Design refinements make the phone more practical, the durability upgrades are genuinely impressive, and ColorOS 16 adds thoughtful touches, even if the bloatware situation remains unchanged. OPPO’s AI features aren’t class-leading, but they’re practical enough to add genuine value rather than feeling like gimmicks.

If you’re after a flagship that excels at the fundamentals, superb battery life, powerful performance, a stunning display, and a camera system that’s reliable in nearly every situation, the Find X9 Pro stands as OPPO’s most mature and well-rounded device yet. The handset can be yours at Rs 1,09,999, a Rs 10,000 increase over the Find X8 Pro.
