OPPO’s wide, compact phone with dual 200MP cameras could launch as OnePlus 16T, claims tipster

Highlights
  • OPPO is reportedly considering launching its wide-screen smartphone under both OnePlus and OPPO branding, claims a tipster.
  • The phone has earlier been referred to as the OPPO Reno X.
  • The phone is tipped to feature a 200MP primary camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera.

Smartphones have become tall and narrow over the years, but OPPO could be looking to revive the wider form factor with its upcoming compact phone, following in the footsteps of the Huawei Pura X View. Initially tipped to launch as the Reno X, the device could now arrive under the OnePlus or Find series branding, according to tipster Debayan Roy (Gadgetsdata). The company is reportedly considering these options after conducting multiple market surveys, given the phone’s premium hardware. Digital Chat Station (DCS) has also suggested that the device could launch as the OnePlus 16T.

OPPO wide phone / OnePlus 16T alleged specifications

According to DCS, the phone is being developed with a 6.35-inch 1.5K flat LTPO OLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. It could also feature a metal frame, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and an IP69 rating. The chipset is tipped to be MediaTek’s 3nm Dimensity 9600M, while the phone could run Android 17. The battery is reportedly being tested at around 7,000mAh or higher, with 80W charging.

The wider screen would set it apart from most current smartphones, which typically use taller 19.5:9 or 20:9 displays. Huawei explored this format with the Pura X View, which features a 6.39-inch 5:3 display. A similar design could offer more horizontal screen space for videos and games without the added complexity of a folding mechanism. However, its wider body could make one-handed use difficult, and app optimisation will be important.

The camera hardware could be the biggest draw as the phone is tipped to feature a 200MP primary camera with OIS and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. An earlier Reno X leak also mentioned a 50MP ultrawide camera, although the latest DCS specifications don’t detail this sensor.

OnePlus 16T or Find-series variant would suggest a more premium approach than the originally rumoured Reno X. Buyers interested in a compact phone should watch for its final display proportions and camera specifications, as the wider design may not suit everyone. OPPO has yet to confirm the device’s name, pricing or launch timeline. However, India availability remains uncertain as no OnePlus T-series phone has launched in India since the OnePlus 10T in 2022.
