POCO hikes prices of POCO X8 Pro, X8 Pro Max and M8 in India by up to Rs 2,000

Highlights
  • POCO has increased prices of the X8 Pro Max, X8 Pro and M8 5G for the second time in India.
  • Some variants are now Rs 3,000 – Rs 4,000 more expensive than their original launch prices.
  • The POCO X8 Pro Max top variant is now priced over Rs 50,000.

POCO has increased the prices of the POCO X8 Pro, POCO X8 Pro Max and POCO M8 in India, following earlier revisions on the same phones. The phones have received price hikes of up to Rs 2,000, with the revised prices now reflecting across retail listings. This is the second price hike for all the phones.

As cynical as it may sound, buyers should be used to this now, with almost all brands announcing hikes across multiple lineups in the past few months to offset increasing memory costs caused by ongoing DRAM and NAND supply shortages.

Should you buy the phones?

The reported revisions make POCO’s devices less aggressive from a value perspective than they were at launch. In the sub-Rs 25,000 segment, buyers can also consider alternatives such as the OnePlus N6, iQOO Z11x, and Moto G77 Power, depending on whether they prioritise software experience, battery or performance. Those shopping around Rs 40,000–50,000 can compare the X8 Pro Max with rivals such as the iQOO 15R, Motorola Edge 70 Pro+, and Google Pixel 10a. While Pixel phones are known for their clean software experience and computational photography, POCO and iQOO phones prioritise performance. Despite the price hike, the POCO X8 Pro Max still remains a leader in performance despite competing with phones that were launched at a higher starting price.

In any case, the generic advice remains the same – hold onto your phones for as long as you phone but if you absolutely have to upgrade, yesterday was the best time but today is the next best as the prices are expected to keep on rising for a few more months at least.
