Redmi 15 5G was launched in India today, debuting with a massive 7,000mAh battery, a first for the brand. The launch also introduces Redmi’s refreshed branding, complete with a new logo and visual identity. Priced under Rs 15,000, the Redmi 15 becomes the second smartphone in this segment to feature a 7,000mAh battery, following the POCO M7 Plus. It also sports a 6.9-inch display, making it an ideal choice for entertainment. With these standout features, the Redmi 15 5G gains a clear edge over rivals in its segment.
The Redmi 15’s 7,000mAh battery is designed for longevity, with Redmi claiming it will retain up to 80 percent health even after four years of use. Powered by silicon-carbon battery technology, it offers a slimmer design, faster charging, and a longer lifespan compared to conventional batteries. The phone also supports 18W reverse charging, letting you power other devices on the go. With this massive capacity, the battery should easily last well over a day on regular usage. For comparison, its predecessor, the Redmi 13, packed a 5,030mAh battery, which comfortably delivered a full day’s use.
Redmi 15 is also claimed to be the slimmest phone with a 7,000mAh battery in this segment. The handset features a ‘Royal Chrome Design’ with an aerospace-grade metal island. It comes in three colours: Midnight Black, Frosted White, and Sandy Purple. The smartphone has an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance. If you want more durability, then you can consider phones like the Realme P3x and Realme 14x, offering up to IP69, the highest rating available. Redmi 15 also comes with the good old IR blaster for a virtual remote and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The new Redmi smartphone has a large 6.9-inch FHD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) display with a 144Hz refresh rate (select apps), 288Hz touch sampling rate, and 700 nits peak brightness. While the display specs are common for this price, the screen is the biggest you’ll find on a phone in the segment, making it a good fit for watching movies, TV shows, and streaming YouTube videos.
While display and battery are the highlights, the Redmi 15 might fall short on performance due to its chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3. It’s over a year old and built on the slower 6nm process, as compared to the more efficient 4nm technology. Phones like the Vivo T4x and Infinix Note 50x, powered by the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7300, could be a better choice for performance.
On the software front, the Redmi 15 5G runs HyperOS 2.0 with Android 15 out of the box. It is confirmed to get two OS upgrades (up to Android 17) and four years of security updates. This software support is quite standard for phones in the same price segment. For photography, you get a 50MP primary camera with a secondary unspecified sensor, and an 8MP front camera. It also offers features such as AI Sky, AI Erase, and Classic Film Filters.
The Redmi 15 5G is scheduled to go on sale on August 28th via Xiaomi retail stores, mi.com, and Amazon India. It’s priced at Rs 14,999 for the 6GB + 128GB variant, Rs 15,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, and Rs 16,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant.
If battery life and a large display are your top priorities, the Redmi 15 5G makes a strong case under Rs 15,000. However, if performance is key, alternatives like the Vivo T4x or Infinix Note 50x may serve you better. Redmi’s refreshed design and new branding also add appeal for those seeking a stylish yet practical daily driver. We’ll be testing the phone’s real-world performance, cameras, and software experience in our full review, so stay tuned before making your final decision.
