Redmi Note series’ fans may be in for some disappointing news. The series spent the past few years moving up the performance ladder but the next top model could reverse that trend. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, due to be unveiled on August 27th, is tipped to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is a newer Qualcomm platform, but the Snapdragon 6 family sits below the Snapdragon 7 series. That means the Note 17 Pro Max could end up with a lower-tier processor than its immediate predecessor, at least on paper. That would be unusual for the top model in the Note range. The progression over the past few generations has generally been toward more capable hardware. The Note 12 Turbo used the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, while the Note 14 Pro+ and Note 15 Pro+ used the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 and 7s Gen 4, respectively.
