Samsung’s foldables go mainstream in India with S25-level pre-orders

Highlights
  • All three folding phones have secured a combined total of 2,10,000 pre-orders in the first 48 hours.
  • Samsung says this signals mainstream adoption of the Galaxy folding phones.
  • The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is Samsung’s lightest and slimmest folding phone yet.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Z Flip 7 FE as its new flagship foldables at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9th. The pre-orders for these devices began on the same day. The open sale starts on July 25th only. But Samsung India has already revealed that in the first 48 hours since their launch on the 9th, the phones have secured a combined total of 2,10,000 pre-orders. Yes, that means the pre-orders for these folding phones match the record previously set by its mainstream flagships, the Galaxy S25 series.

Samsung, in its press release, highlights that this total breaks “previous records”. The company’s president and CEO of the Southwest Asia market, JB Park, said this also reinforces the belief that “young Indian consumers are quick to adopt latest technology.” He also remarks this as a signal for “the mainstreaming of foldable smartphones in India.”

Last year, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 also set pre-order records in our country by having 40 percent more demand than their predecessors. And even the year before, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 also pulled off 100,000 pre-orders in the first 28 hours of their launch.

These figures, along with the fact that the new foldables matching the Galaxy S25 series pre-order record, are telling of how close foldables are to mainstream acceptance. Indian consumers are increasingly willing to pay flagship prices to upgrade to foldable technology. This shows their confidence in the foldables’ practicality, durability, and performance.

Aditya Babbar, VP and head of product marketing, Samsung Mobile, says in a LinkedIn post that the record shows growing trust in foldables, a ready Indian market, and strong efforts by Samsung’s teams and partners.

The pre-order numbers don’t come as a surprise considering the genuine upgrades Samsung has made to the new foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is Samsung’s lightest and slimmest foldable (215g, 8.9mm thick), featuring a large 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, a new 200MP camera, and the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor with advanced AI features.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 sports Samsung’s largest FlexWindow cover display ever at 4.1 inches. It also has a bigger battery (4,300mAh) and is still slimmer and lighter than its predecessor.

Samsung has attracted interested buyers with aggressive pre-order offers, too, including a free storage upgrade worth Rs 12,000 on Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, a Rs 6,000 upgrade on Z Flip 7 FE, up to 24-month No Cost EMI on all three models, and an online-exclusive Mint colour for the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.

With the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 series matching mainstream flagship pre-order numbers, and packing the latest hardware and AI features, now may be the best time to switch to foldables, especially if you’re tempted by the aggressive pre-order deals.
