Xiaomi has expanded its flagship smartphone lineup in China with the launch of the Xiaomi 17 Max. Unveiled during the company’s May 2026 launch event alongside the Xiaomi YU7 GT, Xiaomi Band 10 Pro, and Xiaomi Ear Clip TWS, the new handset positions itself as the battery-focused powerhouse of the Xiaomi 17 series. The flagship lineup already has the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and Xiaomi 17 Ultra

The Xiaomi 17 Max brings together a massive 8,000mAh battery, flagship Snapdragon silicon, and Leica-branded imaging hardware, offering a combination that appears aimed at power users who want long endurance in a flagship phone.

Xiaomi 17 Max price, availability

The Xiaomi 17 Max starts at CNY 4,799 (Rs 67,800 approx) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. It comes in three more variants with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. It is currently up for pre-orders in China and will officially go on sale on May 25th. Buyers can choose between Pixel Black, Sky Blue, and White colourways.

There’s no word on a global release yet, but it’s likely the Xiaomi 17 Max will not launch outside China. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 are available globally, and the brand is also launching Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro soon.

Xiaomi 17T specifications

The biggest talking point of the Xiaomi 17 Max is undoubtedly its 8,000mAh battery, the largest in the Xiaomi 17 lineup so far. Xiaomi is clearly pushing the “battery beast” positioning aggressively in the flagship segment. Despite the huge cell, the phone retains a relatively slim 8.2mm profile, although the weight climbs to 225g. The company bundles 100W wired fast charging support, along with 22.5W reverse wired charging, allowing the phone to double up as a power bank for accessories or other devices.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Max is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, built on a 3nm process, ensuring top speeds and high benchmark numbers. The device ships with up to 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512GB UFS 4.1 storage, placing it firmly in ultra-premium territory. Xiaomi is also shipping the handset with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 out of the box. With a large battery and flagship chipset, the Xiaomi 17 Max is built for power users and gamers alike.

Speaking of large, the Xiaomi 17 Max also stands out for its 6.9-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. The panel supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HDR Vivid. The screen is protected by Dragon Crystal 3.0 glass, while the phone also carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Its large display size makes the device particularly appealing for gaming, video streaming, and multitasking, although one-handed usability could be challenging for some users.

Photography duties are handled by a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup featuring a 200MP Samsung HP9 primary sensor with OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 102-degree field of view. For selfies and video calls, the phone gets a 32MP front-facing camera. Compared to ultra-premium camera phones like the Vivo X300 Pro or OPPO Find X9 Pro, the Xiaomi 17 Max seems more focused on delivering dependable flagship photography while prioritising battery and display size.

The Xiaomi 17 Max could end up being one of the most interesting flagship launches of the year. The combination of an 8,000mAh battery, top-tier Qualcomm chipset, premium display, and Leica-branded cameras gives it a unique position in the market. Gamers, travellers, and heavy multimedia users will most likely appreciate the endurance-focused approach. So, if these are your priorities, then you can go ahead and buy the smartphone. However, those who want more out of its cameras or prefer a smaller size may want to check out other options.
