Xiaomi is gearing up to bring its next flagship phones to India, with early signs pointing towards an imminent launch. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the standard Xiaomi 17 have both reportedly cleared India’s BIS certification, which is usually one of the final steps before an official release. While Xiaomi has only confirmed that the 17 Ultra will launch in select global markets in 2026, the BIS listing strongly hints that India is part of that plan.

The update comes after the Xiaomi 17 Ultra launched in China last month, shortly after unveiling the rest of the Xiaomi 17 series. The entire lineup is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, placing these phones firmly in the ultra-premium category. According to tipsters, only the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra may come to India, while the more experimental Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, which feature secondary rear displays, could be skipped for our market. The Pro models stood out for their rear design, which is not only similar to the iPhone 17 Pro lineup but goes beyond with a secondary display.

Xiaomi 17 Pro

In China, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra starts at CNY 6,999, which roughly translates to around Rs 89,553. It features a large 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Dragon Crystal Glass 3 protection, and the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. The standard Xiaomi 17 is positioned slightly lower, with a smaller 6.3-inch OLED screen. It starts at CNY 4,499, or about Rs 57,565, and runs on the same flagship chipset as the Ultra.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra stands out for its premium cameras, which are a Leica triple-camera system consisting of a 50MP primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 200MP telephoto camera, designed to cover a wide range of shooting scenarios, including landscape, portrait, and street photography. Xiaomi has also launched two photography kits for the 17 Ultra, which now feature a redesigned ergonomic form factor for improved handling and support magnetic attachment. The smartphone also packs a 6,800mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

Xiaomi 17

Xiaomi 17 is a compact flagship with a massive 7,000mAh battery. This smartphone also boasts a Leica camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP telephoto with a Leica 60mm floating lens design.

Xiaomi seems to be continuing with the same strategy in India by launching the successors to the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Ultra. Pricing is key here as Xiaomi is also expected to hike prices of its flagship phones, like all the other Android OEMs. Xiaomi 15 was launched at Rs 64,999, while the 15 Ultra retailed at Rs 109,999. Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra are expected to be priced around the same or higher.

Xiaomi’s upcoming flagships look especially promising for camera lovers. If you’re planning to upgrade to a premium smartphone in 2026 and want the latest Snapdragon chipset, powerful cameras, and big batteries, the Xiaomi 17 series is worth watching. It will be even more interesting to see how it stacks up against rivals like the Vivo X300 series and the OPPO Find X9 lineup, giving photography enthusiasts plenty to be excited about.

Keeping the pricing in mind, it’s best to wait for reviews to see if the upgrade is actually worth it, and how it compares with rivals.
