Fantastic Mid Range Gaming MachinenThe Full HD 1920 x 1080 screen is a god sent after years spent on 1366 x 768 screens. 1080p Videos and High Res Photos look good with the screens colour reproduction. Glossy screen might put off prolonged use in sunlight; viewing angles are more than sufficient though.nThe GeForce GT650M did splendidly on games released in 2012. The i7 handled a 250GB copy from USB 3.0, GTA IV, 18 tabs of IE and Photoshop without breaking a sweat. Ultrabay is a good upgradation option but it has no unused RAM slots.nSo far I haven't seen any issues with the trackpad that seem to plague the Y series. The curved keys of the keyboard might need a few days to get used to though. Backlight is pretty useful and makes this laptop a real head turner.nA 7200 RPM HDD would have made the machine faster but the 5400 RPM 1TB HDD does well. Got upto 75 MBPS on USB 3.0. The always on USB is great feature to have if you have a battery guzzling smartphone or tablet.nThe JBL speakers are enough to fill a medium sized room and quality is satisfactory. Dolby technology helps when you are watching HD movies. Webcam might claim HD but I have seen better.nWiFi range is good. Had a little trouble with charging the battery but that was Windows and a driver reinstall fixed it. Got upto 3 hours from the battery under light usage and 50% brightness. Barely makes a noise or heats up even under prolonged use. The power adapter is bulky and the bag that comes with the laptop is barely large enough to hold the laptop, charger, a mouse and and external HDD. You couldn't possibly pack in more for a laptop

I've bought this product a week ago on flipkart and it is amazing. The single graphic card is amazing to play games on medium settings. But i would like to make it SLI version buy adding another graphic card via the ultrabay option. But not yet available.. Please flipkart sell ultrabay graphics card to be used with the product.

I went to my local retail store to check out this laptop and to my surprise, I discovered that the new model 59-379647 does not have Full HD 1920 X 1080 resolution even though that is listed on Flipkart. PLEASE NOTE: The old model i.e. 59-346619 came with Full HD screen but the new one which is currently being sold on FK does not, I have personally verified this at my local Lenovo store, if anyone has contradictory information, please do tell. Shocked at the incorrect listing by Flipkart.

I got influenced by the spec, good CPU, best GPU, sli drive etc. and overlooked the trackpad issue. I knew about it before buying this machine but somehow thought it can be rectified by software/bios/driver updates. I am using it for one month now, frankly this laptop is unusable without external mouse. I tried many drivers, configuration changes also continuously keeping track of y500 community in USA but still nobody has got y500 without issue. I even tried to place service request but lenovo support is so unhelpful they never recognize the issue when you call them and excplain the situation for more than 30 minutes, they treat you like it is first time you are using computer :D . and when you try to raise a service ticket using online portal it takes you to USA site and india is nowhere an option for required service location.I finally sent mail but havent got any acknowledgement. my request to you all is do not get influenced by the spec, no doubt it is best in class for this price, but using laptop without working trackpad is real pain. please visit your nearest lenovo dealer and check the piece yourself. Infact sales people are aware of this issue and they might tell you it is configuration issue and it will not be present in out-of-box laptop. its not true. if trackpad issue is not there then this is really good laptop,, silent, cool, fast and good display.

I finally got my laptop today after a wait of 8 days (As intimated earlier by Flipkart) and the wait is totally worth it. First of all kudos to flipkart to have packed the item so well and for making the delivery on time. I could not have waited any longer. Now coming to the laptop, it's a piece of art. It looks beautiful, sturdy to hold, solid aluminium finish and the red keyboard backlight is the cherry on cake, literally. It comes with this hip lenovo backpack which only adds to the stu(r)diness of the package. Perfectly designed with a high(est) resolution screen (1080p), you could just sit admiring the laptop and windows 8. There have been complains about the touch pad but i haven't found any problem as of yet. Lenovo has added it's own intelligent touch controls and it works pretty well. Coming to the performance, it doesn't seem to have any heating problems while running Adobe creative suite editing HD videos (which demands lot of performance). The GPU Nvidia GT650M has lot of reputation and i am sure it'll live up to it when combined with such hardware by lenovo. The ultrabay feature is yet to be tested and I'm excited about this feature of adding an extra GPU :O. All and all it's bang for your bucks and I thank flipkart for bringing this product to India.
