Vivo X200T first impressions: brings flagship-grade hardware under Rs 60,000

The Vivo X200T has officially been launched in India as the upgraded version of last year’s X200 smartphone. The handset is the first ‘T’ model in the flagship X series, with an asking price of Rs 59,999 and a spec sheet that’s designed to grab attention. While Vivo hasn’t officially stated so, the handset seems to be the company’s attempt to fill the gap left by the upward shift in pricing for the Vivo X300 (review) series.

We take a closer look at what the smartphone brings to the table and how it feels in the hand when you pick it up for the very first time, in this Vivo X200T first impressions. Read on.

Familiar yet impressive design

You won’t be able to tell the Vivo X200T apart from the X200 and the latest X300, at least from the looks of it. All three smartphones ship with a large circular rear camera module, a corner-aligned pill-shaped LED flash, and flat edges. The Vivo branding is etched at the bottom, while the camera module features the Zeiss branding, a familiar sight on Vivo smartphones.

The only immediately noticeable distinction on the X200T is its Seaside Lilac colour option. This is the variant we received for review, and it leans towards a soft, muted purple. The finish looks soothing in person, yet still manages to stand out subtly in a sea of more conventional colour choices. The handset also comes in the standard Stellar Black, if you want something mainstream.

Either way, the handset should feel convincingly premium, thanks to its aluminium alloy frame and glass back. The Vivo X200T is also relatively compact, measuring around 160 × 74.29 × 7.99mm, and at 203g, it remains easy to carry around and should be comfortable to use throughout the day. The smartphone is protected by SCHOTT Xensation Core glass and is certified IP68/IP69 for water and dust resistance. For extra peace of mind, Vivo also includes a colour-matched protective case in the box.

The Vivo X200T features the same 6.67-inch AMOLED display as the standard X200, complete with an FHD+ resolution, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, slim bezels, and a centred punch-hole cut-out. That said, the panel isn’t quite as power-efficient as the one found on the Vivo X200. This is because the X200T uses an LTPS panel, which, while perfectly capable, cannot adjust its refresh rate as dynamically as an LTPO display, resulting in slightly higher power consumption.

Flagship-level hardware

The Vivo X200T should be perfectly capable of handling everything thrown at it, thanks to its MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ SoC. While built along the same lines as the original Dimensity 9400 SoC, the plus variant offers superior clock speeds and optimisation for an enhanced experience, at least on paper. The handset felt snappy while scrolling through the UI, but it will be interesting to see how well it performs in regular use, multitasking, and gaming.

The camera setup on the Vivo X200T includes triple sensors, comprising a 50MP Sony LYT702 OIS primary unit, a 50MP Samsung JN1 ultrawide unit, and a 50MP Sony LYT600 3x telephoto unit. The sensors are slightly different to the regular Vivo X200 cameras, and on paper, capable too, but we will be testing the setup in different scenarios to see how they fare. For selfies and video calling, the smartphone features a 32MP sensor in the punch-hole setup.

The Vivo X200T packs a sizeable 6,200mAh battery, paired with 90W FlashCharge wired charging and 50W wireless support. On paper, it is bigger than the X300 in capacity, which should translate into excellent endurance, though we’ll reserve the final verdict until we’ve put it through extended real-world testing. On the software front, the Vivo X200T ships with the latest OriginOS 6 out of the box and is promised to receive five major OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates.

Early thoughts

Based on these initial impressions, the Vivo X200T looks like a good buy for users who prioritise a premium design, capable cameras, and strong battery endurance. Stay tuned to 91mobiles for the full Vivo X200T review, where we’ll put its hardware through our detailed testing, from the chipset and battery life to the cameras. With rivals like the Motorola Signature and OPPO Reno15 Pro Mini in its sights, the smartphone will be vying to emerge as a compelling choice in the competitive sub-Rs 60,000 segment.
