The POVA 8 is built on the premise of helping users stand out from the crowd: Arijeet Talapatra, CEO, Transsion India

The POVA 8 makes a strong case for itself with a strong focus on design and backs that up with solid specifications that look ready to tackle the competition head on. Arijeet Talapatra, CEO of Transsion India was quite bullish about the new device as he sat down with me for a quick chat on the sidelines of the launch event. Here are some excerpts.

On being asked where the brand is headed

We have built a strong name on the back of phones that excel across various aspects – from AI capabilities to signal strength, and everything in between. During times when prices are going up, we’re maintaining the value proposition by offering devices that are specced well and yet, are able to offer something unique. The Pova 8 for instance.

On the design being the key message and “deleting the normal”

Today’s users are more opinionated than ever before and are looking for ways to express their individuality. A phone is very much a part of us, and is probably more important than the clothes we wear. When we were young, we had only a few options, even for things like career choices. But these days, there are innumerable options and various career paths. Not only that, youngsters are making bold choices and have the full support of their parents and families, too. So why should our phone be normal and look the same as everyone else’s? The POVA 8 is built on the premise of helping users stand out from the crowd and express themselves by making a strong statement. And it’s able to do that while delivering on all the core aspects like camera and battery. We don’t need to depend on specs to prove our point.

When asked about the resemblance to another smartphone

Look, we cater to a certain audience, and they have their own. In this segment, a difference of even Rs 10,000 is substantial. And when you look at the Pova 8, you’ll see that the value for money we can offer is unmatched. On one hand is the design aesthetic that helps the user stand out and express their individuality, and on the other are specs like the 8,000mAh battery, triple chip system, Sony cameras, etc. So, if we can fulfil that aspiration for the masses without them having to shell out big sums of money, we feel we have achieved our objective. And the Pova 8 is certainly a device that can do that. That too, without making any compromises in terms of the usage experience.

On being asked what we expect from the brand next

There are more in the pipeline, and we have more launches lined up through the rest of the year. In fact, we might even launch our very first non-smartphone device!
