The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is a special phone, and while I’m still in the honeymoon period of using it as my daily driver, I can safely say that its unique form factor makes it a super useful smartphone. Its asking price of Rs 1,79,999 puts it squarely in the premium league, and despite the durability enhancements and solid build, a case would be a wise investment. A special phone deserves a special case, and the first name that came to mind was Spigen. Quite apt, since just like Samsung. Spigen is Korean too, and its AirSkin Aramid MagFit case is the one I turned to for keeping my precious Galaxy Z Fold8 safe from harm. And while I was at it. I also got hold of the Spigen EZ Fit Tempered Glass for the Z Fold8, designed to protect the cover screen in a way nothing else can.
The Spigen EZ Fit Tempered Glass comes in a pack of two and is currently listed at Rs 1,699. The glass is quite thin, but has passed military-grade drop tests. The 10H+ AluminaCore glass preserves original touch sensitivity and minimises interference. It doesn’t impact the display clarity either. Installing it is an experience by itself, and unlike most other screen protectors, you don’t need to take the help of a professional to do it. You can do it by yourself easily, without any risk of misalignment or bubbles.
Both the screen protectors in the pack come pre-mounted on alignment trays, and all you need to do is follow the simple instructions provided to ensure a clean install. And once that’s done, the result is the original display experience, but with the additional peace of mind promised by Spigen.
Moving on to the case, the Spigen AirSkin Aramid MagFit is priced at Rs 5,299. It’s a two-part cover made of premium Aramid, a woven fibre that feels light and has a refined texture. It features a close-fitting frame that doesn’t impact the Z Fold8’s thickness or weight, and has precise cutouts for ports, controls and camera lenses. The camera lenses on the rear are protected by a lip that ensures they don’t get scratched when the phone is kept on a table or when you slide it in or out of your pocket.
One of the best aspects has to be the built-in hinge. Attached to the bottom section of the two-part case, this hinge covers the phone’s hinge, folding and unfolding smoothly. The case is also MagFit ready, which means you can use magnetic mounts and other accessories with your Fold8 seamlessly.
Verdict
Using the Galaxy Z Fold8 on a daily basis, with its cover display protected by the Spigen EZ Fit Tempered Glass and the phone itself covered by the Spigen AirSkin Aramid MagFit case, has reminded me again of how important the case is to the overall usage experience.
For one, the screen protector and the case don’t impact the overall usability of the display or the weight/thickness of the device, and two, the level of protection offered adds immensely to the peace of mind. Moreover, the case looks great, adds grip, and the MagFit features add another layer of convenience. It makes for a winning combination for sure, and I’m glad I went for it. The asking price is higher than some of the other Z Fold8 cases you can find, but Spigen’s reliability and promise of protection can’t really be matched, so it’s well worth the investment.
