Android OEMs took things up a notch this year by introducing large battery capacities in smartphones. 7,000mAh has now become a standard among mid-range and budget phones, and doesn’t even surprise us anymore. This has now shifted to the latest Android flagship phones like the Xiaomi 17 series, offering 7,000mAh+ batteries. But if that’s not enough, then we might soon get a smartphone from Xiaomi, with a mammoth 9,000mAh battery.
This information comes from a reliable tipster Digital Chat Station Digital Chat Station, who shared the leak on Weibo. This Xiaomi phone is also said to support 100W fast charging, which is one of the fastest available right now, but with the battery capacity, it might take longer than even 7,000mAh cells. According to the tipster, prototypes for a 10,000mAh phone are already being tested by Xiaomi.
While the phone’s name hasn’t been revealed, it’s speculated that the device in question could be the rumoured Redmi Turbo 5. However, this phone is also tipped to come with a 7,500mAh battery, so details are still heavily speculated for now. That said, it may not be entirely surprising to see Xiaomi launch a phone with a 9,000mAh seeing how rapidly 7,000mAh+ batteries are becoming common.
But is 9,000mAh even required? A reliable battery is one of the top requirements for anyone buying a new phone. Android OEMs have been successfully delivering phones with large batteries and fast charging support. Even a 5,000mAh battery is usually enough to get through an entire day, but pushing things further might require more juice. Still, longer battery life wouldn’t hurt anyone, and there’s no reason why a buyer would refuse it.
The Redmi Turbo 5 would debut in China, and arrive later in global markets if Xiaomi plans to expand the device’s availability. All details are based on rumours, so it’s best to wait for more concrete information. Still, it does give us an interesting future to look forward to for smartphone batteries.
