Like with Olympus Has Fallen (2013) and London Has Fallen (2016), Morgan Freeman has openly admitted in interviews that he did this movie mainly for the money. As he explained for the previous two: "Money. It's the third in a series it pays better than the first one. I get to play the president again, I'm in a successful series, I'm working with a guy I really admire and like. It's perfect." When asked whether he still felt "fire in his belly" with regard to acting, he said: "I enjoy it, I still enjoy it. I love making movies, but it's more like smouldering embers now."
Production on the film was delayed by three months, to allow Gerard Butler time to recover from an injury he received while riding his motorcycle.
Piper Perabo replaced Radha Mitchell as Leah Banning, Mike's wife, whom Mitchell played in Olympus Has Fallen (2013) and London Has Fallen (2016).
Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman are the only two actors reprising their roles for this installment. Thus, being the only two actors to appear in all three "Has Fallen" movies.
Gerard Butler stated that this film will be darker and more character driven than either Olympus Has Fallen (2013) or London Has Fallen (2016), even going so far as to compare it to Logan (2017). He also expressed hope that this will be the final " ... has Fallen" film.
"Allan Trumbull: It is our moments of struggle that define us."
"Mike Banning: If you don't train like it's real, you're dead when it is."
