The film went mostly unnoticed, but Aamir Khan's performance as Amar Damjee was appreciated by critics and filmmakers. It also turns out that Aamir's performance in this film was one of the key reasons director and film maker John Mathew Matthan selected Aamir for his film "Sarfarosh", as he thought Aamir played a tough cop, which he needed for his film, very well. "Sarfarosh" would go on to become a huge hit and win both Aamir Khan and John Mathew Matthan a lot of acclaim.
Aamir Khan fools Mamta Kulkarni into believing she killed someone in order to get rid of her . This scene was copied from Michael J Fox film The Hard Way. The same exact scene was used with Akshay and Saif in Main Khiladi Tu Anari, which was a remake of The Hard Way.
The theme song that plays during the opening credits is identical to the theme of the opening credits for the film, The Don (1995). Interestingly, The Don (1995) was also produced by Salim Akhtar, with some of the same crew, including the same background music composer, Aadesh Shrivastava, and was released roughly 3 weeks after Baazi (1995) was released in April 1995.
Some scene's were inspired from Patriot Games and Die Hard 1.
Sajid Khan told on Koffee with Karan that he had given Ashutosh Gowareikar the VHS of Diehard which was remade into this film.
