The original American television broadcast was 140 minutes long. However, the VHS (German) release is only 94 minutes long, this is also the version that is now broadcast on television. Many of the deleted scenes included original songs. There are currently no plans to release this movie with both cuts between the original American television broadcast (140 minutes) and the German theatrical (94 minutes) on Blu-ray/DVD.
Drew Barrymore was 11 years old during filming. She was also a regular at nightclubs, had been smoking for two years and was beginning a dangerous flirtation with alcohol that would later extend to marijuana and cocaine.
Drew Barrymore couldn't sing well, so Linda Harmon was brought in to dub Barrymore's singing vocals.
While Keanu Reeves was in Munich filming this movie, he was learning how to ride a motorcycle. He asked a young woman who drove an Enduro if she could teach him. When he returned to the US, he got his first motorcycle, and has had a passion for motorcycles ever since.
Leslie Bricusse created most of the score. Only parts of Victor Herbert's original operetta are used; the bulk of the score is newly created.
