TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Although Dun Dunbar Castle was just a fictional castle created for the movie, there was a Dunbar Castle located in Scotland, but it's no longer in use.

Most of this movie was filmed at the Dalmeny House, both inside and out. It is the home of the Earl and Countess of Rosebery, and was completed in 1817. Tours are conducted in June and July. The Castle for Christmas is not actually a castle, but a Tudor-Gothic revival mansion located in South Queensferry, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, called Dalmeny House.

The actor that plays Angus (Stephen Oswald) is deaf in real life, and was able to learn his lines for the Christmas carol scene through a technique known as oral training.

In order to prepare for her role in the movie, Brooke Shields actually bought a Scottish castle, and was taught how to care for it by the Scottish groundskeeper.

Cary Elwes only agreed to his role in the movie in order to pay off some gambling debts. He was reportedly paid extra for each scene where he had to kiss Brooke Shields character.

Popular Dialogues

"Maisie: Welcome to the Village Inn. Sophie: Thank you. I have a reservation under Sophie Brown. Maisie: Sophie Brown, the author? Sophie: Not sure I should admit it, but, uh, yes. [chuckles] Maisie: I've read all your books. [chuckles] Maisie: I just finished the last one. Sophie: Wonderful. Maisie: May I ask you a question, then? Sophie: Sure. Maisie: Why'd you leave it so long to kill off Winston? Sophie: What? Maisie: I was hoping you'd do it in volume one. I never liked that sod. Too bloody perfect. Sophie: [chuckles] It's... You know what? I'm not so sure I did either. Maisie: [laughs] Bugger. Sophie: [chuckles] I killed him off. Maisie: Good for you, Sophie Brown. [laughs] Sophie: Sod. Got any other names for him?"

"Myles: [Discussing the black out] It's probably due to all the Christmas lights you made us put up. Sophie: Oh, sure, blame Christmas. Myles: I would never do that. [Turning toward her] Myles: I'm blaming you."
