TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

In a 2011 interview, Linda Hayden talked about auditioning for her role in this film when she was 15. "...it was very much a sex-type movie, that was the fashion. And my screen test I did topless, because that was the scene with the elderly man who played the part, Keith Barron. When she came into the study. So it was all quite near the knuckle. And there was a big to-do about that and my parents were asked did they mind (that she auditioned naked). When I did the screen test I was there with a girlfriend of mine from school, a very beautiful blonde girl, a mate of mine, a very strong personality. And she was convinced she was going to get it. But before the end of the day I was being pictured and photographed and I think and I think she sussed something was going on. That ruined a good friendship. They made up their minds pretty quickly. But I think they'd done quite a lot of auditioning."

Final film of Sally Stephens.

Another actor was first cast as Harry but dropped out.

Popular Dialogues

"Amy Quayle: [returns with happy Luci from dress-shopping to sidewalk cafe] Well? Nick Quayle: [looking at dress on his pretty new sister] Couldn't be much shorter, could it? [Luci sits down] Nick Quayle: It's all right, I suppose. Amy Quayle: Oh now, Nicky. Now look, the two of you have a snack, then you take Luci out for the afternoon, and don't be late. [off she goes, leaving them alone]"

"voice of the film narrator: [to black-and-white images of doomed cattle and poultry, the film in the cinema drones on] Master butchers like this one [creepy older man in audience surveys crowd] voice of the film narrator: are quick to spot the right bird, [spots Luci, latching on to her] voice of the film narrator: and their experience and know-how is the key to the young housewife's satisfaction. Meat auctions attracts the crowds, some keen, some just curious. Here the butcher can see just what he is a-getting. [on-screen, a variety of pigs] voice of the film narrator: This is a free-for-all, and anybody is welcome. [Nick returns from smoke break] voice of the film narrator: Today, the standard is very, very high, but a little rough meat still finds its way onto the British market. Judging meat on the hoof is an expert business and it would seem there are fewer master butchers [the creepy guy sits down next to Luci] voice of the film narrator: buying from the market these days. Some say that they are getting older and that there aren't any youngsters going into the trade. [the guy places his leg next to Luci's, his hand poised] voice of the film narrator: Even so, these are the men who enjoy the excitement of the market auctions. Yet the master butcher remains what he has always been: a craftsman, descendant of a long line. [he touches her knee] voice of the film narrator: We are all Jack Sprats at heart, you know. [narrator chortling] voice of the film narrator: We like it lean. [Nick sees the undue attention being lavished] voice of the film narrator: The modern taste is for small joints. [Nick urges her to resist, but she just sits back] voice of the film narrator: This helps the farner, who can grow the end product more quickly. And that means more and more meat goes into the British oven. [stroking thighs] voice of the film narrator: And here is the result of all the farmers' work and the butcher's craft. A prime cut of the protein. [Nick nudges her] voice of the film narrator: You don't have to ask whether they like it. [narrator guffaws, turkeys squawk, Nick drags Luci out of her seat, and they run out of the cinema]"
