This is Saif Ali Khan's first English feature film. Jon Harris who edited Guy Richie's cult classic Snatch has re-edited the movie in a record time frame of 21 days.
The script went through 52 drafts.
The movie was originally titled Akoori, a traditional Parsi scrambled-eggs-like side dish, to reflect the 'scrambled' Sethna family. The name was changed as majority of audience won't get the meaning. The director, however, has included a scene of Akoori being prepared where a thousand eggs are broken in a large vessel.
The film was planned to be released in Hindi dubbed version in 2007, but director Homi Adjania cancelled the plan, stating the dubbing will "take away the performances".
Dimple Kapadia convinced Saif to do the film.
"Cyrus Mistry: You know how to play Chess, Mr. Sethna? Fardounjee Sethna: Used to. I wasn't a Grandmaster or anything. But saala my father told me one thing about life from this game. He used to say, "Always remember, son. Once the game is over, the King and the Pawn go back into the same box.""
"Cyrus Mistry: [narrating] As children we never imagined that there was a world out there that other people spent all their lives grabbing at; As much as we wanted to breakout into that world, nobody ever told us that the more we grabbed, the more we would lose a few pieces of ourselves. It was inevitable, I guess."
