Rotten TomatoesBlack Mirror is a show on Netflix that has stuff you have never seen before. The anthology series uses the concept of near-future dystopia to pick emerging technologies and show the extent to which they could be employed to make life hell for humanity. The essence of the show is what is the best thing about it - technology is not what makes us monsters, instead it enhances our abilities to do that to our kind. This British series is simply horrifying, dark, gritty, and extremely sad in some episodes. This is one show that we recommend you do not binge-watch. Instead go one at a time, absorbing each episode for what it tries to convey. Indeed, the show has elements of black comedy, but those elements are so hidden beneath a layer of morbidity that most might not even end up noticing it. Most definitely, one of the best Netflix series yet.

Black mirror is a reference to the effect of a television or computer screen when switched off, giving a dark reflection of the onlookers.
From the second to the third season, the series changed from being a distinctly British show, with the exception of Jon Hamm in Season 2 Episode 4, Black Mirror: White Christmas (2014), to featuring American actors in most main roles. This was because the first two seasons were produced by British production company Zeppotron, whereas the third, fourth and fifth seasons were commissioned and produced by Netflix, an American company.
In Netflix's War Machine (2017) featurette, Brad Pitt said he would do an episode of Black Mirror if there was one Netflix show he could be on.
Charlie Brooker said that despite the show's themes, he loves technology. "It's not waving a fist at the iCloud," he added.
Despite numerous references in different stories suggesting they all take place in the same universe, series creator Charlie Brooker has stated each episode is set in its own world (excluding possible sequels to specific stories).
"Kenny: [sobbing] They filmed me. Hector: Filmed you... Kenny: Through my computer camera. Hector: What, like, filmed you? Kenny: Yeah, like, you know, doing it. Hector: Like sex? Kenny: No. Like, you... you know. Hector: Jerking off. Jerking off to porn or something? Well, everyone does that. The fucking pope probably does that."
