This was the first film shot with Arriscope anamorphic lenses, which were created for Arri by the German manufacturer Isco-Optic.
Co-writer Stuart Gordon was originally set to direct, but was replaced by Abel Ferrara.
Warner Bros. originally scheduled the film for release in October 1992. They opted for the more comedic Innocent Blood (1992) as their horror release that season, as it was felt that the glut of serious genre fare such as Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992), Candyman (1992), Dr. Giggles (1992), and Dracula (1992) would overwhelm the film's potential. The release was moved around several times in 1993 before its unceremonious limited release came in January 1994.
Even though Marti and Jenn are supposed to be in high school, Gabrielle Anwar (Marti) was 23 years old when the movie came out and Christine Elise (Jenn) was 28.
Body Snatchers is the third film adaptation of Jack Finney's novel, the first being Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), followed by the remake of the same name Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978). A fourth adaptation was later made, The Invasion (2007).
"Carol Malone: Where you gonna go, where you gonna run, where you gonna hide? Nowhere... 'cause there's no one like you left."
"Major Collins: We'll give 'em hell, Malone! We'll show 'em what the human race is really made of!"
