Yvonne De Carlo's first pirate movie. This film's working title was "Mademoiselle McCoy and the Pirate."

Eva Perón's favorite Yvonne De Carlo movie. When she visited Argentina shortly after the film's release, De Carlo publicly stated that she wanted to meet the Argentine First Lady. A few minutes before De Carlo's plane was about to leave, Mrs. Perón phoned her and said she was a big fan of her movies, especially this one. She also told her that she was thinking about making a movie of her life and thought De Carlo "would be perfect" in her role. The First Lady also gifted De Carlo an autographed copy of her autobiography.

According to the July 16, 1949 issue of Showmen's Trade Review, Yvonne De Carlo and Andrea King were already rehearsing their on-screen brawl before the leading man was cast.

Verna Felton, who plays the dowager at Mademoiselle Villon's party, provided voices for many Disney features, including Cinderella (1950).

Yvonne De Carlo and Douglass Dumbrille also appeared in The Ten Commandments (1956).
