Silvia Colloca (Sister Lisabetta) provided the voice of Beatrice in a series of short films, beginning with Dante's Hell Animated (2013), based on Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, another iconic 14th-century Italian work.
Costumes for the movie were designed by the famous Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli.
The plot is broadly based on the frame story of Giovanni Boccaccio's collection Il Decamerone (the 100 tales), which came out in 1351, on the heels of the greatest bubonic plague outbreak in history.
After playing Americans in a succession of productions such as The O.C. (2003), English immigrant Mischa Barton reverts to a British accent in this movie.
