Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol Review

After The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and Inferno were made into feature-length films starring Tom Hanks, Dan Brown's novels about symbologist Robert Langdon became big bestsellers in the 2000s. His third Langdon book, The Lost Symbol, has now been made into a TV series. Robert Langdon, a young symbologist, must solve dangerous riddles to attempt to locate his master, who has vanished after having his hand cut and recovered in the Capitol Building in Washington, DC. At the same time, he finds himself disproving a universal conspiracy notion. The thriller takes place several years before The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown's best-selling book. Angels and Demons and The DaVinci Code came before Lost Symbol, the third novel with Robert Langdon as the primary character. Inferno, which was released in 2013, was the novel that came after it. The Lost Symbol is the only one of the Robert Langdon series' four books that hasn't already been made into a major motion picture. The thriller takes place several years before The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown's best-selling book.

TRIVIA

Trivia

While the series is based mainly in Washington, DC, The Lost Symbol was shot in various parts of Ontario, Canada, including Toronto, Hamilton, and Oshawa, a town on the shores of Lake Ontario. Much of the series was filmed in Hamilton, a port city in the western part of Lake Ontario.

None of the projects in the Robert Langdon franchise have been produced in the order that their corresponding novels by Dan Brown were released. The Da Vinci Code (2006) was made first, but adapted from Brown's second book; Angels & Demons (2009) was the second movie to be released, but adapted from the first book. "Inferno" was the third film to be adapted, but from the fourth book in the series. The third book, "The Lost Symbol", was initially skipped over because the studio preferred to adapt "Inferno", but was later adapted fourth as this TV series.

Based on 'The Lost Symbol', Dan Brown's third book in his Robert Langdon series. Sony planned to adapt the book as the third movie in the movie franchise early in the 2010s, following The Da Vinci Code (2006) and Angels & Demons (2009). However, production of that adaptation became too complicated as Ron Howard preferred to only produce it rather than directing, and Tom Hanks would not be returning as Professor Robert Langdon. In the end, the production took so long that the novel 'Inferno' was released in 2013, and Sony decided to skip 'The Lost Symbol' and make Inferno (2016) instead, for which most of the crew of the previous films returned, including Howard as director and Hanks as the main character. Because the series is a prequel to the movies, Hanks was replaced as the younger Langdon with Ashley Zukerman, but Brown, Howard and franchise producer Brian Grazer have remained on board as executive producers.

Previously titled Langdon.

Filming was supposed to start in March 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
