Dove Cameron said she was hesitant to film her nude scenes because her Disney Channel past made her nervous to take on a role that required being naked. But a beach day with her Italian boyfriend, Damiano David, in Italy during a break in filming helped ease her fears. She shared that David has "way less hang-ups on the purity complex than Americans do." David convinced her to go topless since all the other women were. He told her, "Nobody's going to be staring at you. You're totally safe. If you want to, then you're free to do that." She did it and the experience helped her "lose my shame around my own sort of ingrained weird thing about nudity, which I didn't think I had." Being topless in public in front of a crowd of people helped her ready herself to do the same on set the day she filmed her nude scenes.
According to an Instagram post by Dove Cameron filming for the series took 5 months.
