The film was eight years in the making - a very long time, even for Bollywood.
Despite having a big star cast, bringing together the three biggest stars of the 1990s {Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit}, this film was just an average grosser at the box office.
During the television trailers the film showed Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit in lead and then Madhuri Dixit running towards another actor whose face was not shown for some days which the people had to guess it was then disclosed as Salman Khan.
Hum Tumhare Hain" from HUM TUMHARE HAIN SANAM (2002) and "Dil Laga Liya" in DIL HAI TUMHARA (2002), although both have been taken from a Pakistani Punjabi Hit of HADIQA "Boohey Baariyan.
The movie went through many different titles. The original title finally became "Hum Aapke Hain Sanam", but the producers thought it was too similar to Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! (1994).
