TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

This was Spike Lee's first film as a director, writer and producer. He would not appear as an actor in any movies until She's Gotta Have It (1986).

This film was Spike Lee's masters thesis when he attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Two of Spike Lee's NYU classmates who worked behind the scenes of this movie themselves went on to become successful directors. Ernest R. Dickerson, the cinematographer, later directed such movies as Juice, Surviving the Game, Bulletproof, and Blind Faith, as well as hundreds of episodes of TV shows like ER, The Wire, Dexter, Treme, The Walking Dead, The Deuce, and Bosch. Ang Lee (no relation to Spike Lee), the first assistant director, later directed such movies as The Wedding Banquet, Eat Drink Man Woman, Sense and Sensibility, The Ice Storm, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and he won best directing Oscars for Brokeback Mountain and Life of Pi.
