The movie theatre that flashes "Bijou" on the vertical Marquee is, in reality, the Murphy Theatre on Main Street in Wilmington, Ohio which was one of the shooting locations for the movie. The Murphy is a fully restored 769 seat venue.

The character of Johnny (Bella's boyfriend) was an unseen character in the source "Lost in Yonkers" play by Neil Simon. In this film, the character has been realized, and is played by actor David Strathairn.

Bella mentions having seen a film starring William Holden and Jean Arthur. The only film they starred in together was Arizona (1940) which came out in 1940.

Irene Worth won the 1991 Tony Award (New York City) for Supporting or Features Actress in a Drama for "Lost in Yonkers" and recreated her role in the movie.
