Gayetridevi sends her son, Ashok to get her grandson from Japan. Gayetridevi had an elder son, who married a girl of Japanese origin without her blessings. She wants Ashok to get married to Sarita, but Ashok does not show any interest in Sarita. In Japan, Ashok meets with Asha and both fall in love. Asha's uncle wants Asha to marry Pran, but Asha does not like Pran and runs away with Ashok. Pran runs down Ashok with his car, and Ashok is hospitalized and may lose his eye-sight. Gayetridevi will soon find out which of the two girls - Asha - who she does not approve of - or Sarita, will take of her blind son.

After ziddi, pramod chakravorboty was again to take s.d.burman as the music composer for love in tokyo but he had to take shanker jaikishan because of s.d health problems. When the unit left for tokyo all the songs were already recorded except the tittle song as mohd rafi had gone abroad. Pramod decided they should leave for tokyo and when mohd rafi comes back will record the song and the tape would be sent to tokyo and pramod will shoot the song, meanwhile pramod shot some airiel scenes of tokyo from helicopter for this song. Mohd rafi came back 2 weeks late and pramod shot all the required scenes so the unit was idle waiting for the song. When mohd rafi reached mumbai, without going home he directly hurriedly went to record the song and was very excited thats why it can be heard the song mohd rafi sang fast. The tape on same day was sent to tokyo and the shooting of the song was completed fast. When the song starts joy mukherjee crosses the zebra cross and carrying asha parekh and could not hold asha slips and falls down on the street. In the film this scene is there. Love in Tokyo is the first film shot in Tokyo, Japan.
Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan" was quite similar to the one of "Mujhe Tum Mil Gaye Humdum" form LOVE IN TOKYO.
Pramod Chakraborty had shot all the songs for the film before leaving for Tokyo schedule accept title song as Mohammad Rafi was out of the country.Pramod Chakraborty decided to record the song later once Mohammad Rafi comes and the tape will be sent to Tokyo.Pramod Chakraborty took most of the aerial shots and unit was waiting for the tape to arrive.Mohammad Rafi returned two weeks later and from the Mumbai airport straight away went to recording studio it's said he was eager to go home to be with his family so he recorded the song at fast pace.
Asha Parekh's ponytail was held by a hair clip that consisted of two beads on a rubber band.In India such clips were called as Love In Tokyo clips.
Concept of the film was later used in films like Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai 1981,Hum Hain Lajawaab 1984 and English Babu Desi Mem 1996.
