Rotten TomatoesNo Smoking is not your traditional movie. Undoubtedly, it's one of the best psychological thriller neo-noir films that will leave a long lasting impact on you and it will make you want to watch it again and again to find answers. This movie was definitely way more ahead of its time, if it would have been released now then it could have been a blockbuster. The cast of this movie is perfect. I can't imagine anybody else playing the characters present in the movie other than that the original actors played. John Abraham as K was superb, he amazingly portrayed two sides which was - one a narcissist rich guy and the other a man stuck in a tempest. Ayesha Takia also killed in this movie by playing two personas the same as John. Even though her role wasn't that big enough but still left a big and powerful impact on the movie. Anurag Kashyap, the director of the movie, really created a gem.Â

Kay Kay Menon was the first choice for the lead role (K), but he declined suggesting Kashyap to cast an actor having stardom. Anurag then offered SRK the role, who ultimately declined as he felt that the movie promotes 'anti-smoking' feelings. John Abraham was the only star-actor to love the script, and agree to do it.
John Abraham who quit smoking, had to smoke 99 cigarettes a day to get into the character which resulted in his lungs getting affected.
Ranvir Shorey's character name was taken from Anurag Kashyap's good friend Abbas Tyrewala.
Loosely based on Stephen King's short story Quitters, Inc.
Anurag Kashyap's then-assistant Vikrmaditya Mothwani (director of Udaan) appears in a shot where he shows us the middle finger, smoking a cigar in John Abraham's office right after John passes an order to ban the smoking in his office. Currently Vikramaditya is producing films along with Anurag through their co-production called "phantom".
