One comparison that can be made between Outer Range and Yellowstone (2018) is how both shows cast Will Patton as an antagonist. Yellowstone cast him as a calculating ex-con who groomed his biological son Jamie Dutton to take on an adversarial stance against his adoptive father, John Dutton. Outer Range has him cast as the ailing patriarch of the Tillersons, a rival ranching family of the Abbott's.
