TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

The scenes, with cast members, set in Sydney Australia, were actually shot in and around Perth, which is 2,000 miles away (as the crow flies), on the western, and opposite coast of Australia.

Loosely based on a 2009 episode of Australian Story called "Fly With Me".

The house used for Dylan and his Dad is in Baldivis, Western Australia

The movie was filmed on location in Perth, Western Australia and in Tokyo, Japan.

The emu, Kimi's proclaimed favorite bird, and depicted on the emblem of Dylan's school uniform, is Australia's official national bird. Emus are flightless, as Kimi pointed out in her proclamation, which can be seen as necessary to clarify, for many, Dylan's later rhetorical question, "Do emus dream of flying?" It's all a clever tie-in with the paper plane theme.

Popular Dialogues

"Kimi: I think the answers to our questions are found in nature"

"Grandpa: [Giving Dylan a present] I, uh... thought you might like something to remind you of home if you're missing us. Dylan: Oh, you're still my favourite living fossil!"
