At one point, the production ran out of money for the elaborate tattooing, 14 on his face, 39 on his body, and Bell was forced to keep the tats on his face for several days. Bell stated that "none of the crew would hang out with me. I was eating alone."
The first time Jamie Bell spoke to Bryon Widner about playing him in the film was on Aug 12, 2017; the day the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia was taking place. Bell says that Widner had to cut the phone conversation short because he wanted to make sure that Daryle Lamont Jenkins was okay. As depicted in the documentary Alt-Right: Age of Rage (2018), Jenkins was one of the counter protesters in Charlottesville that day.
Danielle Macdonald also stars in a short film of the same name, also about race
Skin stars actors Jamie Bell and Daniel Henshall, who previously worked together in the AMC Television Series TURN: Washington's Spies.
