The film, shooting of which was completed in 2018, was held up for original release in 2019 when one of the producers, Bernard Garret Jr. (son of the main character depicted in the film) whose name has been removed from the credits, was accused of sexual misconduct.
One of the few PG-13 rated movies to use the word "fuck" in a sexual context (Joe's line "I'm not fucking your wife"). The MPA originally rated the movie R solely because of this line, but director George Nolfi and consultant Marshall Mitchell successfully appealed them to re-rate it.
Had a two-week theatrical run before moving onto the Apple TV+ platform.
