Columbia Pictures released this film on a double feature with The Hard Man (1957) with the tag line: "The Long Haul will DELIGHT You! The Hard Man Will EXCITE You!"
The truck mainly used in this film is a 1955 Leyland Octopus. When first seen at the U.S. Army base in Germany, Harry is driving a Rio M35.
Just prior to embarking on the final run, Easy hands Harry a map with the route marked. The map is an Esso road map of Great Britain which were issued complimentary to haulage firms at the time, although motorists could also purchase them.
Marlon Brando and Robert Mitchum were considered for the role of Harry Miller. Raymond Burr was also considered for an unspecified role.
Easy's car is a 1956 Ford Zephyr MKII 2-door convertible.
"Lynn: You know something else I like about you - you haven't tried to make one pass at me. Usually when a fellow takes a girl out and buys her a meal, he thinks that she's the dessert."
"[first lines] Army Sergeant: Hiya Harry, what kept you? Harry Miller: Are you kidding? You know what you can do with this weather."
