IMDbBesides being one of the most successful Kollywood movies of all time in the cop universe, what makes this movie more interesting is the fact that it is based on true incidents that took place in the 2000s and were faced by respected police officers heroically. Karthi, who played the role of Theeran, transformed his personality to fit in the role of DGP SR Jangid, which was truly challenging for him, but he did so with ease and gave his best performance yet. The story of the movie was beautifully written and presented well while keeping in mind the real-life incident. Everyone involved in the film gave their best, including the villains, without whom the movie would not be the same. The movie was critically acclaimed when it was released in 2017 and has an IMDB rating of 8.2. It keeps the audience on the edge of their seats right from the beginning until the end.

Director H. Vinoth had the idea for a movie based on the Operation Bawaria case a long time ago, but had forgotten about it while working on his debut film, Sathuranga Vettai (2014). One day, while buying food, he noticed that his meal was packaged in a newspaper with a news clipping about the same case. This coincidence motivated Vinoth to rework his initial idea into a full script.
The film was shot in some extremely hot places such as Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Madhya Pradesh. As a result, a lot of the crew fell sick while filming due to dehydration.
The introduction on the history of criminal tribes in India is based from the "Moon gazer" chapter from the book Khaki Files written by Neeraj Kumar, former Commissioner of police, Delhi.
"Theeran: When I was 5, my dad who went out to get chocolate wearing his uniform, never returned. My mother never let me realize that as a personal loss. Not everyone is lucky to lose life in the line of duty. She raised me keeping my dad as an example. Till date, I can proudly say, I'm his son. It should be the case with my children too. It's not anger nor a revenge. If we get off this case, we both... will regret entire life that we didn't perform our duties well."
