When Kamal Haasan had plans to remake the film in Hindi, he wanted Dilip Kumar to play the fathers role. Dilip Kumar was not to keen on the role.
Shah Rukh Khan turned down the lead role.
Anil Kapoor put on weight for the latter part of the film.
Anil Kapoor wanted Aditya Pancholi for the film. He even wanted to tell Aditya not to sign any film and keep his dates open. Anil firmly believed that this film would bring Aditya back into the big league. Then the Trimurti episode happened where Pancholi made threatening phone calls to Boney Kapoor. Anil had to drop the idea of casting Pancholi and Milind Gunaji was signed in his place.
Naseeruddin Shah was the first choice to play Raja Thakur but declined the role, the part went to Amrish Puri.
