Lightweight.....Long Battery Life.........And Those Looks!!!

Bought the HP Envy just before it was launched in India.....so kudos to Flipkart for that little coup. Whats Cool a)Thickness The first thing you notice about the laptop, is that is extremely sleek....When they call their lower end version a Sleekbook, they are not far off. The weight is all its touted to be....you could hold this laptop in one hand for hours without straining yourself... Some other nice features are the clip that is provided to enable the ethernet port to be recessed (very nice touch) b) Design Used to have a HP laptop before and boy this sure surpasses all expectations. From the chiclet keyboard...to the lights for the CAPS key/Wireless button....to the blood red matte finish on the bottom....the rounded finish of the screen......the machined finish to the top……this is a classy product c) Battery Life Was very skeptical about battery. After one week of usage I can say confidently that what HP is touting as its actual battery life of 9 hours.....would be impossible to achieve....performing tasks that us regular folks do.... BUT.... Surf the net, play music and use Office and watch a few clips.....doing all those things you can still extract a minimum of 5.5 hours from the battery. Which is still wonderful. If you really pare down on all activities it does touch 8 hours of battery HOWEVER... A lot depends on the power plan. HP Recommended gets you to 6.5-7 hours doing the stuff mentioned above. High Performance, which is required for even basic games like FIFA 12....won't give you more than 90 minutes. d) Audio and Video Beats Audio is clear and vibrant. The sub-woofer makes itself felt. You won't be waking next-door neighbors with these speakers but they are loud enough. The clarity is good. In general performance goes to a new level using headphones but that is nothing new. Video, I am not sure what HP has done with the graphics configuration, it has the ATI-processor and switchable graphics. Plays moderate games like FIFA 12 easily. Something more demanding like Assassin's Creed for example is also doable. CONS a) No Backlit keyboard A backlit keyboard with these chiclet keys would have been appreciated... however..for 52 big ones....that may be a bit of a stretch b) Fan The fan is adequate in all respects and is efficient in cooling. However, the heating level can touch the warm side especially, I have observed during long charging cycles. c) Windows Home Basic Predictably this is going to cause a lot of people to be turned off. HP should have seen this coming. CONCLUSION It has the looks, it has the feel, it has the juice. It does not have the bare muscle of a desktop replacement but then its not made for that. If you are looking for a lightweight laptop with long battery life that has a moderately fast processor, moderate graphics and good multimedia capabilities…..this is the one for you.

Good ultrabook with good specs

Been a week since i bought this. i will definitely recommend this since Ultrabooks are the new Guys in town and not to forget the performance too. nnPRO's:nThe first best thing i want to mention about this ultrabook is its Switchable Graphics. you can configure your graphics to each and individual applications running.nnBattery life is coming upto 7 and half hours in power saving mode.nnBeats Audio: though the speakers look small it gave a nice output with clear sound with out disturbance. nnGaming is good with the 2GB ATI Graphics.nnCON'S:nnWeight is bit heavy for the looks.nncan be still slim but can not blame since no other make is giving this good configuration at this price. And also this is not using a SSD but a HDDnnWindows 7 Home basic edition with this 54k ultrabook is a big no. (installed Windows 7 ultimate)nnBattery will drain fast if you are using Graphic card in high performance mode.nnnAll together this is a great combination of good config from the hands of HP. you Will get the same configuration at the same price in the normal bulky notebooks. But Guys trust me, ultrabooks are the future of computing. lets upgrade the technology.

For linux users...

First... flipkart, you were almost on the verge of 1 day delay before which I had to ask you to make it a priority dispatch.nnSo....As the previous reviews say, this lappy is worth every single penny you've spent on it. This has the look of a hottie and muscles of Hulk!!Gives a decent almost 7hour battery while reading e-books at dimmest possible display brightness and lowest power consumption settings on Windows.nnSo..is this lappy only for windows users?? On installing my "productivity" OS :P i.e., ubuntu, My dream laptop appeared like it was an abomination. Ubuntu works great and looks gorgeous but the device heats up like hell. You cant even keep it on your lap for more than 2secs. All the CPUs and GPUs were running at highest possible rates making the device heat up like crazy and the fan was way too noisy. With all this mess, the battery wouldn't last more than 1hr!!!nnWait...so I cant use my Ubuntu on it any more?? No.nAfter a comprehensive online search, I've found ways to turn off the GPUs selectively, which actually turned out to be way too easy of achieve and Ubuntu has those options built in out of the box. I also learned how to under clock the cpu and there after how to bring down the heating. I could fix all the issues my self. Ofcourse I almost bricked the OS many times..Since I was testing on it, it was expected. So as an index of performance of Linux on it... I could run Crysis 2 on Ubuntu with play on linux. It worked fine in technical terms. With all power consuming stuff turned down, I could get stable 7:30hr battery back up!! So linuxians..... this lappy is THE best you can go for. Dont think again. Go for it.nnNow. My Ubuntu side of laptop is just as fun and easy to use as Windows. I get all feature promised by hardware +many advantages of Ubuntu too.nnIf you wanna know how I could fix the problems, you can contact me on my facebook account www.facebook.com/sree.simha.nnOS Version: Ubuntu 12.10 (In parallel with Windows)nHad to install acpi, powertop and fancontrol utilities(basic stuff) from synaptic and nothing more. Had to modify some files in /etc and in /boot.nnCaution: Do not install ATI catalyst drivers. This will wreck your GUI. You'll have tough time fixing it.Built in drivers and sufficient.

Buy this Ultrabook Plz and Why? Below are the reasons

WHATS HOT?!nn.IVYBRIDGE - Battery life without compromising Performance!!nFor those who are not familiar with it, its the 3rd gen of Intel core processors. This book is equipped with a Ultra low voltage nlatest i5 3317u. U stands for Ultra low power..Consumes only 17W @normal consumption & 36W at high consumption along with the dedicated GPU..Thats incredible!!This is what gives u 7 hours battery life/nn.GPU IS A BEAST!! Ati 7670m quite handles all the games in medium to high settings .. Pre 2k11 games can run in the highest possible settings without a jitter. nn.BATTERY LIFE - As i said Ivybridge "U" variant = 8 hrs battery.nn.INTEGRATED GPU - ivy comes with a Intel HD 4000 which is 65% better performing than the pre gen HD 3000..nDX 11 .. OGL 4.. supportnHD playback,Vid.ENcoding streaming, piece of cake!nn.DESIGN - Less than 2 cm thick ! Brushed metal Black !n should i say anything else?nn.AUDIO OUTPUT - Beats audio is not just a marketing ploy. Compare with an old dell . u will find this WAY better both in speakers and headphones. nn.PORTS - USB 3.0,HDMI,3.5 mm.. everything is here.nnWHATS NOT"n-1366x768 : Last gen!! Low RES!n-ChicKeyboard and Touchpad n-HD LED?? Really?? the colours lack saturation in any viewing angle..n-No SSD !? disappointment.n-Build quality could be better for HP standards.n-50K+ But no i7?! But the 3rd GEN i5 "u" convinces me. :)nnFinally, For its price its just a very good deal..
