Moto G87 spotted online with 8GB RAM, Dimensity 6000-series chipset

Motorola could be working on a new G-series smartphone with plans to launch it soon. The smartphone in question is the Moto G87, which has appeared on Motorola’s official European website. This isn’t a listing but more of an information page about the Moto G87’s design. Still, it inadvertently confirms the Moto G87’s existence and suggests an imminent launch, at least in Europe. Interestingly, the Moto G77 and Moto G67 launched in Europe earlier this January, so the next in line could be the Moto G87. Motorola’s G-series caters to the budget segment, sitting above the entry-level E-series and below the Edge lineup.

Moto G87: what to expect

First spotted by GSMArena, the Moto G87 details on Motorola’s European website are largely about the phone’s design, which is the same as the brand’s signature style. The handset could support expandable storage up to 2TB. Moto G87 has appeared on the Italian retailer EPTO’s website as well, with a listed price of €406.89 (Rs 44,900 approx). Pricing varies depending on the market, which is usually higher in Europe. The handset is listed with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage and in Pantone Overture Gray (a dark slate gray) and Pantone Blue Atoll (cyan) colours.

The Moto G87 is also expected to be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6000 series chip, although the exact model isn’t specified. Since the Moto G67 uses the Dimensity 6300 and the G77 uses the 6400, we could see the Moto G87 with the new Dimensity 6500 SoC. If so, this would mean a performance for the new Motorola smartphone. This chipset series is quite common in the budget segment, but if Motorola opts for the Dimensity 6500, then it would have an edge over rival phones.

It’s still early to determine what exactly the Moto G87 has to offer, since we have very little information about the handset. But with a Dimensity 6000-series chipset, it will most likely fall in the budget segment. This means that the Moto G87 will be an upcoming budget smartphone from Motorola, which could offer a balanced package overall. While details are scarce, the rumored specs suggest Motorola is aiming for a strong contender in the budget 5G space, which is becoming increasingly competitive.
