Motorola Edge 70 tipped to launch in India this month with a slim profile but different design

Motorola Edge 70 launched globally as the brand’s thinnest smartphone, measuring 5.99mm. It debuted in China as Moto X70 Air, then in Europe as the Edge 70. It is now tipped to arrive in India as early as this month with the same thin profile but a different design and a bigger battery. The Motorola Edge 70 has a 4,800mAh battery, which is smaller than its predecessor, the Edge 60’s 5,500mAh unit. A bigger battery would make sense, as most phones these days now offer 7,000mAh batteries.

In India, the Motorola Edge 70 is said to launch in India on December 15th, according to tipster Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings). The Indian variant of the Edge 70 is said to feature a “totally fresh design” and a bigger battery, but still be 5.99mm thin. The handset is also tipped to cost under Rs 35,000. Although more affordable than the global variant, the Edge 70 would still be more expensive than its predecessor, the Edge 60, which launched in India at Rs 25,999.
More specifications tipped for the Motorola Edge 70 include the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, the same as the global variant. It’s said to feature a 50MP triple camera, which could be the same setup as the global Edge 70. This includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP selfie camera. If Motorola goes ahead with this setup, then the Edge 70 would be missing a telephoto lens, which is available on the Edge 60.
Battery capacity is unknown for now, but the Edge 70 in India might offer wireless charging support. This would be a major upgrade for a non-flagship phone, but a reliable battery life would be more important to buyers in this price segment.
The Motorola Edge 70 is tipped to launch in the same three colours as the global variant. The options are three Pantone colours: Gadget Grey, Lily Pad, and Bronze Green.
The Edge 70 is the latest phone to join the slim handset trend alongside the likes of the iPhone Air and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. It’s different, though, as it will be more affordably priced than the other two slim phones. With a bigger battery too, the Edge 70 would have an advantage over the iPhone Air and the S25 Edge. However, we’ll also have to see how the Edge 70 competes with its rivals in the same price segment, and how much difference the slim design can make.
If you’re using the Edge 60, it’s better to wait for Edge 70 reviews, as there may be some spec cutbacks. For anyone looking for a slim phone, though, the Edge 70 could still be a solid option.
