Nothing’s latest teaser hints a new Ear (Open) variant may be coming
Nothing has gone back to one of its favourite teaser tricks, and it might be hinting at a new update. A new blog post from the company features the Pokemon Flaaffy with a simple “Coming soon” tag. If you’ve followed Nothing’s launches, you know what a Pokemon stands for. Those who don’t, it generally means a new product is coming.
Flaaffy isn’t new though. The brand used the same character in 2024 to tease the original Nothing Ear (Open). The difference now is the colour. The Flaaffy in the latest teaser appears in its shiny’ variant, which is how Nothing hints at a different version of an existing product rather than something entirely new. That pattern showed up recently with a shiny Arcanine teaser, which ended up pointing to the Phone (3a) Community Edition. Going by that, this latest teaser is likely pointing to a new colour option for the Ear (Open), rather than a second-generation model.

Nothing Ear (Open) new variant expected
Nothing hasn’t said anything directly yet, but the clues line up. The use of Flaaffy connects it to the Ear (Open), and the colour change suggests a variant. The palette in the teaser is blue, white, and black, which could carry over to the earbuds themselves. That would be a shift from the more transparent, monochrome look Nothing has stuck to so far. Nothing tends to refresh products with limited editions or new finishes between major hardware cycles, keeping the lineup visible without launching entirely new devices.
Nothing Ear (Open) features
The Nothing Ear (Open) launched in India in September 2024 as the brand’s first open-ear earbuds. The design uses earhooks and an open structure so you can still hear your surroundings. On the hardware side, they use 14.2 mm drivers with a bass enhancement algorithm, support Bluetooth 5.3 with dual connection, and offer up to eight hours of playback on the buds, extending to around 30 hours with the case. There’s also ChatGPT integration and AI-based call noise handling.
At launch, they were priced around Rs 17,999, but sale pricing has brought them down to around Rs 9,999 at times. The open-ear segment is still relatively small but growing. Options like Sony’s LinkBuds or Shokz models target similar use cases, especially for workouts and outdoor use where awareness matters. Nothing’s Ear (Open) offers a more lifestyle-focused design and app features, while competitors like Shokz lean more into fitness and durability.
If this teaser does turn out to be a new colour, it doesn’t change the core product. For buyers, the decision comes down to whether you want open-ear audio at all. The design is comfortable and practical for certain situations, but it won’t match the isolation or bass of traditional in-ear earbuds. A new colour option could make the product feel fresher, especially for those who skipped the original look. But functionally, this is likely to be the same device. Nothing hasn’t confirmed a launch date yet, but based on past teasers, an announcement shouldn’t be far off.
