7 things you can do with Nothing Phone (2)’s Glyph Interface

The Nothing Phone (2) (review) has been launched in India with a starting price of Rs 44,999. The device offers several improvements compared to the Nothing Phone (1), including a new flagship-grade chipset, LTPO display, 4,700mAh battery, 45W fast charging, and an upgraded 32MP front camera, replacing the previous 16MP camera. Additionally, the Nothing Phone (2) introduces 33 different lighting zones, expanding the functionality of its Glyph Interface. In this article, we will explore 7 things you can do with the LED lights/Glyph Interface on the Nothing Phone (2).

Glyph timer

Another remarkable feature added to the Nothing Phone (2) is the Glyph Timer, integrated into the Glyph Interface. This innovative addition enables users to conveniently monitor the timer using the LED strip located at the back of the phone. Once a timer is set, the strip activates and gradually fades from one end as the timer progresses. This intuitive design eliminates the need to constantly check the screen, providing a seamless and effortless way to keep track of time.

By simply glancing at the LED strip, users can conveniently track the real-time progress of their cab or food delivery.

Essential Glyph notifications

The Nothing Phone (2) offers the flexibility to customise Glyph notifications according to your preferences. With this feature, you can now configure the top right light strip on the back of the phone to illuminate exclusively for notifications from specific apps. For instance, you can set it to light up for WhatsApp notifications while excluding Gmail or Instagram notifications. Moreover, the light strip will remain lit until you address the corresponding notification. This proves particularly useful when your phone is in silent mode, ensuring that you don’t miss any important notifications from your chosen app.

The device allows you to enable the Flip to Glyph feature to get light-only notifications by flipping the Phone (2) over.

Glyph sequences

The new Nothing Phone (2) boasts Glyph Composer, an app that lets you create personalised ringtones using a captivating blend of lights and sounds. The company has partnered with the music group Swedish House Mafia to create a special sound pack for the device. The sound can be remixed using the app and amplified with the dynamic rear lighting feature.

That said, the app is not exclusive to the Nothing Phone (2). You can download it on the Nothing Phone (1) via the Google Play Store and start creating your own ringtones with similar lighting effects.

Check volume level

Volume indicator

The Glyph Interface of the Nothing Phone (2) also includes a volume indicator feature that provides visual feedback on the volume level while adjusting it. That said, the feature only works when there is some sort of media playing on the device.

The real use of this feature only seems to be when you have music playing on the device and it is placed face down.

Use it as a torch

In addition to serving as a flashlight, the Glyph Interface on the Nothing Phone (2) can also function as a torch. By performing a long press on the Torch tile within the notification centre of the device, the Glyph Interface will illuminate, providing a soft and diffused light that is gentler on the eyes compared to the intense brightness of a camera flash.

Charging indicator

Nothing Phone 2 charge indicator

Similar to its predecessor Nothing Phone (1), the Nothing Phone (2) Glyph Interface includes a charging indicator. It lights up the bottom strip of the device, providing a visual representation of the battery level each time you place the phone on charging and giving it a gentle shake. This intuitive feature allows users to conveniently check the battery status without needing to activate the screen or rely on battery percentage notifications.

Google Assistant indicator

The bottom strip at the back panel of the Nothing Phone (2) also lights up when you activate Google Assistant from the lock screen. This feature allows you to easily determine if the AI voice assistant is actively listening to your commands without needing to physically lift the device.

These are some of the things you can do with the LED lights/Glyph Interface on the Nothing Phone (2). The features that do not depend on hardware are expected to be available on the Nothing Phone (1) through the Nothing OS 2.0 software update, which is scheduled to roll out in August.
