We saw OnePlus debut a new in-house gaming technology on last year’s flagship, the OnePlus 15, as it moved to conquer a new audience after ending its camera partnership with Hasselblad. Once again, the company is making gaming performance a central part of its next flagship. The company has confirmed (via) that the OnePlus 16 will launch in China on October 12th, with a 185Hz gaming display and support for native 185fps gaming in select titles.
The announcement was made by OnePlus China president Li Jie Louis at the 2026 OnePlus Gaming Conference, where the company also detailed its new gaming technologies. Rather than relying only on the upcoming Snapdragon chipset, OnePlus is adding dedicated hardware and software systems to improve sustained performance, touch response and connectivity.
OnePlus 16 new gaming system
The OnePlus 16 will feature the new-generation Fengchi Gaming Kernel, which OnePlus says can coordinate hardware resources across the phone to maintain peak frame rates for longer. The company claims games with native 185fps support can sustain their maximum frame rate for extended periods.
The phone also gets a self-developed three-chip esports system, comprising dedicated chips for networking, touch and display processing. OnePlus claims the system can reduce network latency, improve touch responsiveness and make moving visuals clearer during gameplay.
The display will support 165Hz system-wide, while OnePlus is introducing a higher 185Hz gaming refresh rate. The company says native 185fps modes will be available for games including Peace Elite, Arena Breakout, Nizhan: Future and Naruto Mobile.
The company pushed the refresh rate to 165Hz from 120Hz for gaming last year, and it continues to extend limits, much like other flagships. The iQOO 16 too has officially been confirmed with a 2K 165Hz display. The practical benefit of 185Hz will still depend on game support, sustained thermals and whether users can actually maintain those frame rates.
OnePlus 16 specifications
The gaming upgrade is accompanied by a significant camera overhaul. OnePlus has confirmed a 200MP main camera, along with a 50MP periscope telephoto offering 3x optical and 6x lossless zoom. A 50MP ultrawide and 50MP autofocus selfie camera complete the reported setup. This is a notable change from the OnePlus 15’s triple-50MP camera system and gives the OnePlus 16 a stronger hardware foundation for imaging, an area where its predecessor faced criticism in flagship comparisons.
The phone has also scored over 5.38 million on AnTuTu, with the tested configuration using Qualcomm’s latest flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. DCS additionally claims a 9,000mAh battery, 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, although these battery and chipset details remain unconfirmed.
For Indian buyers, the actual story is whether the OnePlus 16 actually launches here. Reports have suggested that OnePlus could skip the regular model in India and use the OnePlus 16R instead, but the company hasn’t confirmed this. The OnePlus 16’s biggest differentiators could be its combination of 185Hz gaming, a 9,000mAh-class battery and a 200MP camera. The iQOO 16 is likely to be one of its closest rivals, with a confirmed 2K 165Hz display and a large battery of around the same capacity. The choice could therefore come down to whether buyers prioritise OnePlus’ gaming ecosystem and camera upgrades or the specific display, performance and charging package offered by competing flagships.
