It’s not just Apple and Samsung who are making wide, book-style foldables. A new leak suggests OPPO is also working on a wider-format book-style foldable that could arrive with a significantly less visible display crease and a redesigned rear camera layout.
According to Chinese tipster Smart Pikachu (via), the device, tentatively referred to as the OPPO Find N7 Wide, could feature display technology designed to minimise the crease, which is one of the most common complaints among foldable phone users. The tipster also claims the phone may adopt a horizontally arranged rear camera module, marking a departure from some of OPPO’s recent designs.
The latest leak adds to information shared earlier this month by tipster Digital Chat Station. According to that report, OPPO is testing a new book-style foldable with a roughly 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen. The device is reportedly being developed with display panels supplied by Samsung Display and BOE and could launch in Q1 2027.
The same leak suggested the foldable could be powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, which is expected to be built on a 2 nm process. DCS said OPPO is also believed to be working on a new hinge system aimed at further reducing the visibility of the display crease, which aligns with the latest information from Smart Pikachu.
As manufacturers search for ways to make foldables feel more practical for everyday use, wider displays and improved hinges are emerging as areas of focus. The wider form factor itself is becoming an important trend in the foldable market. Samsung is widely expected to introduce a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide model later this year, while Apple is reportedly developing its first foldable iPhone with a similar approach. Reports suggest Apple’s foldable, which could eventually be marketed as the iPhone Ultra, may feature a shorter and wider book-style design with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
For buyers, this shift towards wider foldables could be one of the biggest upgrades the category has seen. A wider cover display makes everyday tasks easier without unfolding the device, while a landscape-oriented inner screen can improve multitasking, productivity and media consumption. If OPPO can combine that design with a nearly crease-free display, the Find N7 Wide could emerge as a rival to upcoming foldables from Samsung and Apple when it arrives. Buyers looking forward the wide style of foldables should keep an eye out for more information on this phone.
