While the OEM has yet to make anything official, the OPPO Pad Mini is said to be in active development. The tablet is expected to be a compact offering, likely positioned to take on the Apple iPad Mini. Key specifications of the OPPO Pad Mini have surfaced online, suggesting it could offer more features than its direct rival. Despite its smaller form factor, the tablet is also tipped to pack a large battery.
Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station has posted the specifications of the purported OPPO Pad Mini on the Chinese microblogging website, Weibo. The post reveals that the tablet will be equipped with a flagship-level 8.8-inch LTPO OLED display that bears up to 144Hz dynamic refresh rate, 2,882 x 1,920p resolution, up to 1,800 nits brightness, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The display looks much more promising than the current-gen iPad Mini, which sports a standard LED panel with just 500 nits of brightness. Its LTPO capability and 144Hz refresh rate, besides the OLED variety, should enable smooth graphics and animation on the Pad Mini.
While the OPPO Pad Mini design remains under wraps, it is likely to bear slim bezels. Under the hood, the tablet may boast Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC. It may not be the most powerful chipset out there, but it holds more raw power than Apple’s A17 Pro SoC. Several smartphones have also been launched with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC, including iQOO 15R and OnePlus 15R, and they have not flinched at everything we’ve thrown at them while reviewing them. The OPPO Pad Mini could be the first tablet with the chipset.
In terms of optics, the OPPO Pad Mini is reportedly set to feature a 13MP rear camera. This should be sufficient for tasks like document scanning, which is a more practical use case for tablet cameras. More notably, the device is tipped to pack an 8,000mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging. It will be interesting to see how well the battery is optimised for real-world usage.
The OPPO Pad Mini boasts eSIM connectivity and a metal unibody design, measuring 5.39mm in thickness and 279 grams in weight. This makes the tablet slimmer and lighter than the iPad Mini. That said, it is worth noting that Apple is expected to refresh its mini tablet later this year. It is rumoured to come with a few upgrades, including an OLED panel and an IP rating.
For now, these details remain speculative until the brand officially confirms them, so it’s best to take the information with a grain of salt. The decision to buy the OPPO Pad Mini can only be made after its official announcement. However, if you’ve been looking for a capable compact tablet that offers much more than the existing options, such as the iPad Air, it might be worth waiting for.
There is no launch date for the OPPO Pad Mini yet, but considering that the brand has actively been working to improve its tablet market share, it could very well happen soon.
