The OPPO Reno 17 series is launching in China this month, with two models expected: Reno 17 and Reno 17 Pro. There have been several leaks around the new phones, with rumours that a Reno 17F and Reno 17c are also expected to join the lineup. Ahead of the launch, key specifications of the Reno 17 and Reno 17 Pro have leaked online. Here’s what has been revealed.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo, both the Reno 17 and Reno 17 Pro are tipped to feature a 50MP periscope camera, although the main and ultra-wide sensors remain undisclosed. On the front, the standard Oppo Reno 17 is said to sport a 6.5-inch display, while the Reno 17 Pro could feature a smaller 6.3-inch panel.
The battery capacities are also reportedly different, with the Reno 17 expected to pack an 8,000mAh-class battery and the Pro model a 7,200mAh-class cell. Both would be upgrades over the Reno 16 lineup, which offered batteries of up to 6,700mAh. Under the hood, the Reno 17 is tipped to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, while the Pro model could feature MediaTek’s Dimensity 8550. These are the same chipsets used by the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro, which means we won’t see significant performance improvements. OPPO’s decision to use the same chipsets could be to tackle the current smartphone industry crisis with rising prices.
The leak also mentions three memory configurations: 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, and 12GB+512GB, although their availability across the two models remains unclear. Meanwhile, the five rumored colour options, as per machine translation, include Snow White, Ice Moon White, Cocoa Brown, Starlight Pink, and Encounter Cat.
Based on this leak, the main upgrade might be in the battery department for the Reno 17 series. If so, Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro users may not see any reason to upgrade to the Reno 17 series. However, those looking to upgrade to a new premium mid-range phone may still find the Reno 17 lineup worthwhile. We should still wait for more details before jumping to any buying decision.
