Realme 16x clears BIS, India launch likely soon
Realme’s next budget 5G phone is edging closer to launch. The Realme 16x has now been spotted on the BIS certification site with the model number RMX5270, which is usually a clear sign that an India launch isn’t far off. The listing itself doesn’t reveal specs, but combined with last month’s leak on the colours and variants, there’s already a fair idea of what this phone could be.

The timing lines up with Realme’s usual cycle. The Realme 15x launched in October last year, so a follow-up around now makes sense. The 16x is expected to sit at the lower end of the Realme 16 series, below the Realme 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro+. The BIS listing suggests the phone is close to launch. Leaks pointing to a 4GB RAM variant also hint at pricing staying in the Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000 range. That’s a segment where options are abundant right now. Phones like the iQOO Z11x, POCO M8, and Lava Blaze Duo 3 are all built around similar priorities. In this bracket, people tend to care about how long the battery lasts, whether the screen feels smooth, and if the phone stays usable after a year or two.
Realme 16x expected specifications
From what’s leaked so far, the Realme 16x could come in Endurance Brown and Glory White, with three variants: 4GB + 128GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 6GB + 256GB. The base 4GB option shows Realme is still aiming to keep the entry price low.
The Realme 15x gives a good reference point of what specs to expect. It came with a large 6.8-inch display, a 144Hz refresh rate, Dimensity 6300 chip, 50MP camera, and a 7,000mAh battery with 60W charging. The 16x is likely to stick to that same approach. It should sit below the Realme 16 5G, which uses a stronger Dimensity 6400 Turbo chip, so don’t expect a big jump in performance. If anything, the changes may be incremental, maybe a slightly newer chipset or small improvements to charging or efficiency.
Battery is the one area where expectations are already set. The 15x’s 7,000mAh unit stood out in this segment, so the 16x will need to at least match that to stay competitive. Other brands are also pushing bigger batteries, so that’s quickly becoming the baseline rather than a bonus.
If you’re looking at phones in the Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000 range, it may be worth waiting a bit to see what the Realme 16x offers, especially around battery and day-to-day performance. Even small upgrades in chipset efficiency or charging can make a difference over time.
