Realme is stepping up its flagship game with determination. Following the launch of its first GT-series smartphone in India since 2018 earlier this July, the company has unveiled the Realme GT 7 Pro. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which has been making waves for all the right reasons.

Adding to its appeal, the smartphone is priced competitively at Rs 59,999, offering impressive specifications for the cost. The Realme GT 7 Pro touts a flagship-grade camera setup, a beefy 5,800mAh battery, an 8T LTPO panel, and quick charging speeds. Read on to find out how the smartphone performs in the real world.

Verdict

The Realme GT 7 Pro is an excellent choice for those who want flagship-level performance, impressive battery life, and a fantastic viewing experience without an incredibly high price tag. That said, its thermal management is average at best, and the camera system also needs slight refinements.

Design and display

Realme has elevated the design language of the GT 7 Pro, making significant improvements over its predecessor, the GT 6. The glossy back panel has been replaced with a sleek all-matte finish, giving the new GT-series smartphone a more refined look. The device also features a large rectangular camera module, surrounded by a bevelled border to hide that protrusion. Yet, the module juts out of the frame significantly, making the device wobble when placed flat on a surface.

Having said that, the Realme GT 7 Pro feels nicely balanced and easier to hold with its flat edges and curved corners. I reviewed the Mars Orange colour variant, which is a bit flashy but can be toned down using the black silicone case included in the box. Alternatively, you can opt for the more understated Galaxy Grey colour variant.

While the Realme GT 7 Pro weighs slightly on the heavier side (roughly 220 grams), its slim profile (8.5mm) and 3D curved glass on both the display and back panel ensure a comfortable grip and a sleek feel in hand. Moreover, the handset is IP69-rated, making it more durable against water and dust than most other ultra-premium flagships, including iPhones.

As for port and connectivity options, the Realme GT 7 Pro is equipped with an IR blaster on the top edge to control home appliances, while the bottom edge features a USB Type-C port for charging. It offers stereo sound via dual speakers, delivering impressive loudness with a peak output of 83.3 decibels during our lab test — even maintaining excellent clarity even at 80 percent volume. The volume rocker and power button are ergonomically placed on the right spine, ensuring effortless access without awkward hand positioning. Additionally, the phone sports an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner, which provides swift and seamless unlocking.

The Realme GT 7 Pro sports a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, which has been co-developed by Samsung and optimised to deliver better battery performance. It is an LTPO 8T display that bears FHD+ (2,780 x 1,264 pixels) resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, 6,500 nits peak brightness, and Corning Glass 7i protection. There are no complaints regarding this display. It delivers well on its promise with an impressive viewing experience and colour reproduction both indoors and outdoors. The default colour profile is balanced, but the phone offers the option to tweak it up and make it more punchy from the settings app. While the curved edges and razor-thin bezels further enhance the viewing experience, the 3D curved glass atop the display gets a bit reflective when looked at from an angle outdoors.

Cameras

The Realme GT 7 Pro features a triple camera setup with a 50MP OIS F/1.8 primary sensor, a 50MP telephoto 3x lens, and an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide snapper. For selfies and video calling, the handset boasts a 16MP snapper in the punch-hole setup. As observed in our detailed Realme GT 7 Pro camera review, the images are detailed but show a tendency for overprocessing, sacrificing the natural appeal, in both daylight and low-light conditions. Moreover, colours often appear vibrant, with occasional boosts, and portraits offer good edge detection. The ultrawide photography of the handset, however, is average at best.

The front camera delivers images with ample details, but the skin tones aren’t always accurate. The phone offers a special ‘underwater’ mode, which activates automatically when submerged or can be accessed manually from the ‘More’ pane in the camera viewfinder. This mode, designed for underwater photography, relies on an aqua touch display and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner—ensuring the phone remains responsive underwater and serves as a shutter button. Photos can also be taken using the physical button on the right side, and the quality depends on the cleanliness of the water.

As for videos, the Realme GT 7 Pro is capable of capturing 8k recordings at 24fps. However, the phone does it best at 4K 60fps in bright conditions.

Performance and software

The Realme GT 7 Pro stands tall for its performance, which has been taken care of by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage on board. In our synthetic benchmarks, it achieves higher scores than the A18 Pro-powered iPhone 16 Pro. Based on numbers, the GT 7 Pro is a few inches taller than the China-specific Xiaomi 15, which draws power from the same Qualcomm SoC.

However, further optimisation through OTA software updates is needed to enhance heat dissipation and minimise performance throttling during intensive workloads.

Nevertheless, the Realme GT 7 Pro flawlessly handled everything thrown at it including games at high-end graphics and frame rate settings. I was able to play BGMI with Ultra HDR graphics and Ultra frame rate settings without any lags and stutters.

Realme has also added several AI features to improve the gaming and camera experience. The Gaming Super Resolution, for instance, enhances visuals by notching up the game’s resolution to a maximum of 1.5K from the standard 720p.

For cameras, there’s AI Eraser, now a staple on several new-age smartphones, to let you remove unwanted elements from images. Whereas, AI Unblur effectively sharpens blurry photos. Both features require an active internet connection and deliver satisfactory results, though achieving more natural-looking outcomes may demand some additional adjustments.

The Realme GT 7 Pro also comes with a Sketch-to-AI feature, inspired by Galaxy AI, to draw objects over images. The feature does a passable job – as and when it works, but not as impressive as the latest Samsung foldable and S-series smartphones.

Software-wise, the Realme GT 7 Pro boots the latest Android 15 as its base for the custom Realme UI 6.0 skin. The OEM has significantly reduced pre-installed third-party apps to just five, featuring popular options like Amazon, Myntra, and Facebook.

While the overall user experience remains mostly familiar, you get new icons, Flux Theme (similar to iOS) to customise the lock screen with text and images, and Touch to Share for seamless data transfer across platforms using the O+ Connect app, among other things. Other notable enhancements include Live Alerts — a pill-shaped notification around the punch-hole camera that delivers quick updates on Zomato or Swiggy order statuses, music playback, game timers, personal hotspot activity, and more.

The handset is guaranteed three years of major OS updates and four years of security patches, ensuring it remains relevant through 2028. This could be better as OEMs are gradually promising a minimum of four major Android update cycles.

Battery and charging

The Realme GT 7 Pro excels in battery performance with its chunky 5,800mAh unit, which comfortably lasts a full day even under heavy usage. The handset consumed an aggregate of 21 percent during our YouTube video streaming and gaming tests. Moreover, its results in the PCMark battery and charging speed test surpass those of close competitors like the OnePlus 12 and Xiaomi 15, cementing its position as a leader in battery efficiency. The GT 7 Pro takes roughly 40 minutes to achieve a full 100 percent charge from 20 percent. You can read more about the smartphone’s battery performance in our detailed review.

Final verdict

The Realme GT 7 Pro is a solid addition to Realme’s flagship lineup, which successfully blends powerful hardware, cutting-edge software, and an impressive set of features at a very competitive price point.

With its Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, stunning 6.78-inch AMOLED display, and versatile camera setup, the smartphone makes a compelling case for users looking for top-tier performance without the ultra-premium price tag. Other standout qualities of the smartphone include an IP69 rating, 120W fast charging, and AI-enhanced capabilities that further elevate its appeal.

However, certain aspects such as the camera’s tendency to overprocess images and thermal management under intense workloads could benefit from further refinement through OTA updates. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Realme GT 7 Pro delivers an overall well-rounded experience that is no match to competitors (yet).
