Amid the ongoing price hike across the smartphone industry, Redmi has also been affected, with three popular handsets now more expensive in India. The smartphones in question are the Redmi Note 15, Redmi 15, and Redmi 15C. The price hike comes months after their launch in India, suggesting that even existing phones are not gonna be spared. We’ve been seeing new phones launching at higher prices for the past few months, due to rising component costs. This has led to a significant shift in the Indian smartphone market, with prices increasing across the board.
Let’s take a look at the new pricing details for the Redmi smartphones.
Starting with the Redmi Note 15, it was launched in India earlier this year, in January. The smartphone debuted at a starting price of Rs 22,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant. This is now costlier by Rs 2,000, making its current price Rs 24,999. The 8GB+256GB variant, which had launched at Rs 24,999, is now available at Rs 27,999, after a price hike of Rs 3,000.
The budget Redmi 15 and Redmi 15C are also part of this price hike. The Redmi 15 launched at Rs 14,999 for the base model, but it is now priced at Rs 18,499, after a price hike of Rs 2,000. As for the Redmi 15C, it’s the most affordable phone in the lineup with a starting price of Rs 12,499. But this one’s more expensive now, starting at Rs 15,499, after a price hike of Rs 3,000.
You can refer to the table below for a proper breakdown of all the prices.
| Model name | Variant | Launch price | New price |
| Redmi Note 15 | 8+128GB | Rs 22,999 | Rs 24,999 |
| 8+256GB | Rs 24,999 | Rs 27,999 | |
| Redmi 15 | 6GB + 128GB | Rs 14,999 | Rs 18,499 |
| 8GB + 128GB | Rs 15,999 | Rs 20,499 | |
| 8GB + 256GB | Rs 16,999 | Rs 22,499 | |
| Redmi 15C | 4GB + 128GB | Rs 12,499 | Rs 15,499 |
| 6GB + 128GB | Rs 13,999 | Rs 17,499 | |
| 8GB + 128GB | Rs 15,499 | Rs 19,499 |
Based on the new pricing, these Redmi phones now sit in a higher price segment than when they were launched. It’s not only Redmi that has increased the prices; the table has shifted accordingly. Realme has also hiked prices of several of its smartphones in a similar segment to Redmi’s. Also, it’s not clear if there’s any other reason for Redmi to increase the prices of its existing models, but this move could also be seen as a way for Redmi to reposition these specific models based on the current market scenario.
The Redmi Note 15 is recommended for those who want a great display, a sleek and durable build, good daylight cameras, and long-term software support. However, its performance isn’t the best in the segment. At its new price of Rs 24,999, the Redmi Note 15’s performance weakness becomes more pronounced compared to rivals in this segment, but that’s only a concern if you’re a power user.
The Redmi 15 stands out for its large 7,000mAh battery and 144Hz display. This phone makes sense for power users who rely on long battery life and a smooth gaming experience. The Redmi 15C is the more affordable alternative for buyers who want a large and smooth display, reliable battery life, premium design, and dependable performance.
While the new prices raise a question of whether the phones make sense now or not, a similar trend is seen in other brands too. So, you’ll most likely get the same kind of experience even from a rival brand. Still, it would be wise to compare against rivals and see what they’re offering for the same price.
